What the Heck? Are those hunger pangs?
Yes I thought the same thing, I even mentioned it to my doctor. He, of course, laughed. I made the mistake of picking on a couple of pieces of cold chicken in the fridge and I guess I really didn't chew it that well. I threw up and couldn't keep anything else down until later that night. That is when I knew I had the surgery. I think the hunger pangs are normal but they did seem to subside in me and I am sure they will with you also. I ate alot of sugarfree popsicles in the beginning, just to keep my mouth busy. I do feel a little hungry today but I think my period is due. I guess all we can do is recondition our minds to go with out stomachs. Hang in there, you will be fine. I wish you well!
Thanks for the encouragement. I found Q-Smart soy chips. They satisfy my need to chew and have a bunch of protein in them. I couldn't put another sugarfree popsicle to my lips if my life depended on it. Maybe this summer! I'm working on getting my brain on board with my stomach! Hopefully, I'll get it all together soon.
I have actually been going through some similar things you have. My scale has definitely stalled and yes sometimes you do go up a few pounds but it won't stay there forever. Believe me!! And yes, recently I have been having hunger pangs for certain things but I really think it is our minds that make us think that and that is something that we will all need to overcome at one point or another. You did have the surgery and I have found that out the hard way unfortunately! Anyways, hang in there! Stay strong and you will get through this period just fine

Thanks for letter me know I'm not alone in this. My nutritionist suggested I bury the scale in the attic and not think about what it's doing. I can't do that because I'm too obsessive/compulsive. It did move this morning, only 1/2 a pound, but at least something. I'm concentrating on getting my protein in and doing at least some exercise. Good luck to you, too.
Yep. Been there done that. I had weight gain my 3rd week. My body just wouldn't release the pounds and was trying to protect itself. Remember, your body is still in shock from the operation and the lack of calories compared to before surgery. Really focus on your protein intake and water. Take two multi's a day, calcium CITRATE and sublingual B12. Hang in there! You are not alone!
Thanks! Where would we be without this board? I'd be sitting here thinking I was a total failure! I'm working on the protein and water. I only recently discovered that I was taking the wrong calcium (duh), so have switched to the citrate. I've gone back to my 32 g. of protein shake in the morning. It's the one thing that I can get past the nausea (I make my own). The scale moved this morning, so maybe I've convinced my body that I'm not going to starve it to death! Now, all I need to do is convince my brain that I'm not hungry!
I took Viactive the first month after surgery because that is what the dietician recommended. I later found out that our bodies don't absorb the carbonate calcium. So after a month of that, I THEN went on calcium citrate.
I also took Flinstone's vitamins my first month as well because that was what dietician recommended. I now take Centrum Complete Chewables twice a day. Big difference.
So we've all been there our first month or two, then we learn.
Congrats on the scale moving!
