Complication - Been in the hospital all week
Hello,
I was in excruciating pain on Monday, went to the ER and they found that my bowel had twisted and herniated...Had emergency surgery Tuesday morning, and was in the hospital until yesterday afternoon. Yes, it has been a terrible week for me! I am now staying at my parents house so that my children don't hurt my recovery, I am in so much pain still...Please, please, please, listen to your bodies and go to the ER when you are in pain - this was a life-threatening complication that the doctor said only 5% of WLS people get - lucky me, to be in the 5%! I was two months out - and starting to feel confident that all was well...doesn't change anything, I am still happy to have had the surgery, but I am going to listen to my body better from now on!
Now I have gained a bunch of water weight, I'm sure it will be gone in a few days though- and am back to a liquid diet, until the nausea subsides and I can handle solids again - I feel very blessed that they found this problem in time, and that I am still here...If you are having pain like this - don't wait and post questions on the board...Listen to your body and go to the hospital!!!

Please list your symptoms so we know what to look for. However, excrutiating pain is an ER trip for sure. Ugh!
I'm SO glad you went to ER and they found what was wrong and fixed you all up again. Sorry you went through it, but you have HELPED others by sharing this on here. I'm always surprised when I read posts like "i'm having chest pains and my left arm is numb. What should I do?" or "I can't get a full breath. Is this serious?" I'm like GO TO THE HOSPITAL - CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!! When things like that go wrong, LEAVE and seek medical attention. That's what I do. Glad you did that to. Then coming back and letting us all know what happened. You did all the right steps. Bravo. I know you had a tough week, but this week will be a LOT better!!
Being on IV fluids makes us gain weight, so don't worry about that. Those extra "pounds" will be gone soon!! Hang in there and rest your body. Keep us posted.
Thanks for the well wishes! My symptoms were terrible abdominal pain in the middle and left of my stomach (not the right). Back pain. Nausea, and eventually vomiting anything and everything that I drank (eating was a moot point by then), including the darn barium that they had me swallow for the CT scan...
I am finally doing better today - I was pretty depressed the past few days because I have to recover from two major surgeries in a row...I had just gotten into a routine where I could get in all of my protein and liquids, I actually liked water again, and now I am kind of back to square one! I know what I like though, and I am not going to give this up, so I am feeling better. I went for a little walk in the woods this morning, and I am so happy to be alive!
