I was told by my surgeon that you can't eat beef for the first year because of it being fibrous and too hard to digest. I see that alot of you have already tried it. Is it going well for you??

i had surgery 2/11 but am snooping on this board. i cannot eat any meat at all except for Wendy's chili (i think the meat is finer texture). i tried chicken again today - very tiny bit and chewed chewed chewed and threw up. i can't even do tuna. i have been able to do cold shrimp on occassion. this whole eating style is really tough. i have ups and downs and meats is the worst.

I am going to try the Wendy's chili, I have read about other people being able to eat that. My problem with seafood is I just never like it. As for chicken I can eat that but I get tired of it fast so I try chicken salad which is good. Well thanks for your imput.

Hey I had my surgery on March 14th and have been able to handle hamburgermeat but have to chew chew chew chew. I have heard that steak will mess with you if you eat it in the first yr and ahve had some people from our local board that tried it and hurt afterwards. But I just thought I would let you know how it went for me. Bear1415 -64 lbs 03-14-05

Thanks, I appreciate it. When I think of beef I think if a big steak not hamburger meat but I am still scared to try it.

I have eaten hamburger, meatloaf, and meatballs. No problems. I chew it really well. However, nothing bothers me. All foods, except eggs, seem to agree with me. And with eggs, I just feel full after two bites, so they're useless. I agree about steak though. I don't plan to chomp on any for quite a while.

I have had burgers, ouch! COuldn't keep it down. I have also had roast beef, home made, not deli, it hurt for a few but stayed. What I have found that beef stew (home made) really sets well for me and it is tasty. it takes care of my beef cravings! Good luck! Kristey

that's a little strict! i was told i might have trouble with it, but try it and see. i've even had steak--i stole 2 steak-out steak tips from my hubby's plate. they were wonderful! had to chew them really well though. i think i did so well with it b/c steak-out's tips are soaked in marinade and usually very tender. the only meat i've had a problem with was tuna, even now it sits in my pouch like a brick. i usually eat boca cheeseburgers (vegetarian) so i haven't really had a "burger" yet, but i've had wendy's and hormel chili with no probs whatsoever.

No restrictions, here, but was told it would be wise to avoid it, except for ground beef, cooked in a sauce. The only beef I've had is Hormel's chili. I have had some chicken, but mostly have stuck to fish and I have had buffalo burger (which is drier than beef, but I mixed low-carb BBQ sauce in with it).
