6 week update
Hi everyone. I haven't posted much in this site but thought I would share a little with you.
I had Open RNY surgery on 3/21/05 at Tempe St. Luke's in AZ. My surgeon was Dr. Salvino with the WISH Center. My surgery and recovery went well, and was released from the hospital in less than 48 hours. I stayed in Phoenix until 3/26 then drove home to ABQ.
Since then things have been going great. I am down from a consult weight of 284 to 231. On the day of surgery I weighed 274. I wish the weight would move faster, but I am trying to be realistic. (That the hardest part isn't it?) I have had a very slow last two weeks. I was in a two week plateau before that and it has been slow moving since then.
I have been exercising like crazy in the last three weeks. Generally I am walking an hour a day six days a week. In the last week, I have added a 30 minute workout in the evening. (Trying to keep myself from going to the food when I get bored.) I have a few cardio tapes, and resistance band tapes that have help distract me. I have also added some protein shakes twice a day to get in 60g. minimum. That seems to have helped.
My first major goal was to hit 199 by my B-day on 7/1... so it is looking good right now. I need to go 32 pound in 8 weeks. I am going to starting walKing 4 miles each morning. Once I hit my two months out, I want to try to step up and start transitioning to running. My reward for hittign my first goal is going to be a gym membership and a personal trainer.

Do you live in NM or AZ? Do you attend support groups in NM if you live out there? Just curious since you had surgery here.
Don't worry about the plateaus. That happens in weight loss. Veterans of this surgery tell me - get used to it. Our bodies fluctuate and sometimes hold on to weight trying to "protect" itself. Crazy body!!
Great goals you have for yourself!! You are doing great. Don't be in a race to lose XX amount of pounds. I wish I could predict weight loss. Buy my body does what it does. Ya know? Congrats on your success so far. You have a great attitude and that is so important!!!
