You do what feels best for you.Don't push your body to do something that it's not ready to do. Walking is mainly what I do. I either do a 1-2 mile walk with a video called walk away the pounds, or I go for a nice walk outside for 30- minutes or so. Sometimes I swim or use the treadmill... but I like walking the most and you can pace yourself for what you think your body can handle. Make sure you are recovered and feeling up to it and start off slow! Hang in there and excersizing will become easier for you with time. Take care. Bonnie

Thanks so much! I sort of feel the same way. I just think that hey, after all, I did have major surgery and I am morbidly obese. I wasn't able to do much before surgery which is why I had the surgery. I just think my body will tell me when it's time. Reading all the posts about everyone doing all these physical things shortly after surgery, was making me feel guilty. Good luck to you!

Jean, I am 7 weeks post op and am walking but sometimes the pain in my legs prohibits it so then I have found a place that has water areobics in my area. It is a Godsend. The water helps with arthritis and it keeps all exercise LOW Impact. So look around I know some YMCA's have it I am doing it through a program with my hospital. Bear1415 -60+ lbs 03-14-05

I think walking is so boring - especially on a treadmill! I joined a gym and next week I am starting with the water aerobics. Its pretty low impact and especially good for people with arthritis, I think. I started roller skating last week. its kicking my butt, but 1/2 of skating is worth 1 or 2 of walking, so its good for me. Good Luck!

Walking is the best thing to do. Even if you start out doing 2 minutes at a time, that is better than nothing. Another thing you can do is chair exercises - basically exercises you do while you are sitting in a chair. Exercise is VERY important!!!! Granted, weight will come off post-op because we are eating less, but exercise helps our cardiovascular systems, our energy levels and helps tone our stretched out skin. Right now I either walk the neighborhood with my dog or I dance to music in my room (in the dark). I also do stretches and callestinics. (sit ups, leg lifts, etc.) I'm down 50 lbs now and need to think about using weights to tone up my arms and such. But I'm doing what I can now.
