Hi I had surgery April 1...I am wondering if it's okay for me to swim? My incision is closed and looks good....is there any other reason I wouldn't be able to swim? DK

Once the incision is healed over completely, have at it. Don't swallow water

I think you better ask your doctor first.

I was in the pool and the ocean three weeks out and I had an umbilical cord hernia repaired too. I say go for it!

my surgeon said 2 weeks post-op, but i had laparoscopic, i don't know which you had (you said incision vs. incisions so i'm assuming open). i think he says the same for both types though.

My doctor told me that I had to wait 3 weeks unti I could swim because if you go into the water too soon your incisions will absorb the water and it could cause your scars to scar even worse. I would talk to your doctor and see what he says. Bonnie

I had lap, and my doc said 4 weeks. So yes, probably best to ask the doc.

DK, My surgery was on 03/25. I saw my dr last week and specifically asked about swimming and exercise- he said yes to both. I think it should be ok. Terri

My Phys cleared me at 2 weeks to lift up to 20 lbs and to kick the workouts up to normal (just not weights). I think you should clear it with the Doc, dude(tte). Just to be safe.
