Harolyn, The same thing happened to me. I got so discouraged and thought surely the surgery failed for me. I didn't lose anything for almost 3 weeks. Then one day I stepped on the scale and the pounds literally started falling off. I promise it will change and you'll be so surprised and excited. Don't give up. Try to only way once per week. I weigh only on Wednesdays, the day my acutal surgery was. Other than that I steer clear of that little scale. Hang in there....things will start moving again. This is just part of the process. Hugs Lisa

Hi Harolyn, I had surgery the same day as you did. I have lost 36 so far and that has stayed the same all week. I noticed when I upped my protein intake to at least 60g I started to lose more than when I could not make the 60g! I have been frothing this week so of course I could not get in that much protein so I have stayed the same weight. You are not doing anything wrong if you are following your surgon's plan. Your body needs time to adjust it was major surgery that we had. My body loves to retain water and it has continued to do so. I hope this helps. Margie 287/249/150

Yes, I have gone through this!YOU ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG! It is very normal and you will get through it!! I know it is hard to not get frustruated and upset, but know that you will definitely lose that weight. Your body is still in shock right now. It seems that you are doing everything you need to do. So keep it up, keep your head held high, and know that there are many people rooting for you!Take care of yourself and you will be so happy at the end of your journey Bonnie

I lost great my first two weeks, then I gained 5 lbs my third week then I lost that 5 lbs the next week then NOTHING for a week, then I finally started losing again. It's VERY common post-op. People tell me to get used to losing good for a while and then stopping for a while then losing again, etc. So only weigh yourself ONCE a week and don't let the scale dictate your mood. (easier said than done, i know). Make sure you take your measurements weekly as well. Sometimes you'll lose inches whenyou haven't lost weight. You are NOT cursed. You are NOT a failure! Be patient. Do not compare your weight loss to others. We are all different. I still find myself comparing my weight loss to others on this board and such, and the guys always lose faster and others lose more weight in shorter amounts of time and such and it's easy to get down. But i have to remind myself that I am me, and I can't compare myself to others. Our bodies and systems are all different. So hang in there! You will lose again. You aren't doing anything wrong!

I agree with what so many others here have said... Toss that scale, it doesn't sound quite accurate to me and it's just making you I know that all doctors have different protocols, but I though I would pass this along. I'm 5' 2" and now weigh 237 (-24lbs) I am supposted to get in 64-80oz of fluids and 60-80g of protein daily. Good Luck! Suzanne

Hang in there... we will try huh?? It does get frustrating. I just read where someone lost 34 pds in a month... the weighted less than me when they started... and they said... "I will start exercising next week...." WHAT ??? I exercise almost daily and have only lost 20 pds in a month.... but whoever said life was fair huh???

Megan, I have my 1 month checkup today. As of this morning I am down 22 pounds since surgery. I weigh myself all the time, just 'cuz I'm curious. I don't get discouraged, I just keep plugging along. I do notice that I fluctuate between 2-3 pounds for a while and then slowly I'm fluctuating between the next 2-3 pounds lower on the scale. Yesterday I weighed 237 and today it's 239. I lost 24 pounds before surgery and I barely started to notice it in my clothes. Now that I've lost an additional 22 pounds, I've really noticed it in my clothes. I'm down 1 size and fitting into all those clothes in the back of my closet I know that some people say that you lose a size every 20 pounds. I think that when you are heavy it takes more than 20 pounds to make a difference. We were loose, stretchy clothes so you can't notice right away. You also know about the whole "starvation mode" thing right. I'm sure it's just going to take our bodies a little while to adjust. I know for me that without this surgery I would not have lost this additional 22 pounds. I have never in my entire life lost more than 30 pounds, so I am just so happy with my weight loss. The scales will move, just keep at it. Good Luck! Suzanne

I had my RNY on March 24th.. I'm down 26 lbs. as of today.. But.. I'm also down 20"... Get a tape measurer... I bet you've lost a ton of inches. Try to drink at least 64 ounces of water a day.. That helps. Don't get discouraged.. This WILL work for you.. Give it a chance. Your body is in shock... Viv. Let me know how you;re doing. [email protected]
