I am 3 weeks post op as of today. For the last 2 days I have been having almost non stop diarrhea, but not sure why. I just started including an egg and/or cottage cheese in my diet, but seems like even the protein drinks are hard to drink and not go right through me. Anyone else having this problem? Also, my period is late, so don't know if that has any baring on it either? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

There is a chance that you could now be lactose intolorant. Try lactose free milk and see if that helps.

Hi Suzy I had the same problem. For the first week, nothing and then, as soon as I went off clear liquids, I got the runs for about a week. Things are much better now. It's pretty common to become lactose intolerant after the surgery, so that may be what has happened to you. Try the Lact-Aid milk or chewing a Lact-Aid pill before you have anything with milk in it. Also, check the board for an earlier discussion about how the surgery affects your period. Good luck, and hang in there!

And I"m the opposite. I don't go for days on end...I just had to use Philips to get things moving.

For getting things moving -- "Smar****er". It is water with electrolites and really helps things to move down like they should. You can buy it as some Target stores, and natural stores like Whole Foods. As far as the D word, you body kind of shuts down when it isn't digesting solid food. Often times the good bacteria cultures needed in the intestines are not there. Yogart is a good thing to eat first because it helps build the cultures back up. Cow milk is not natural to our system, so it often takes time for our system to reaclimate itself to the "foreign" milk. Sometimes goat milk works better or Soy milk if you don't want to relearn cow dairy. Remember, that you intestines are relearning how to digest.

Sounds like you could be lactose intolerant. Try not eating/drinking dairy products for a few days and see if that helps. Lactose intolerance is very common after surgery. Also, changing eating habits from liquid to soft food could be a "shock" to your system causing that. Not sure. The period thing is another department all together, so who knows. Post-op they say that affects our cycles - either makes them normal or wacky. So hang in there. (Any chance you are preggers??? )

Absolutely not! No way. But thanks for the suggestion. It's gotten better in the last day or 2, but now I'm having problems keeping food down. I thought I was eating slow enough. I eat so slow that I find myself getting bored with the food and trying to eat. Plus, I feel so much better not eating. I'm a little worried about trying to add soft foods to my diet next week when I've had trouble this week with just adding eggs and cottage cheese.

Also if you are lactose intolerant, WHEY protein is made from milk!! The dr told me to switch to soy and I have felt MUCH better and the Soy tastes better!
