isopure ready to drink Questions
I have a question to ask. I have been drinking these drinks since the shakes to me are horrible! I can't drink drink them they make me feel sick. Since these drinks have 40 ounces of protein in them I thought I was doing good. I need to get in about 70-80 according to the Surgeon's office. I am making that but only because of the drinks. Do you all think that I am going about it the wrong way? Should I still be trying to drink the shakes?
I use the isopure creamy vanilla powder and mix it with crystal light orange sunrise.. it tastes kinda like an orange julius. I have had a tough time with my protein shakes just because I have not been able to handle the taste... I have heard that UNJURY is really tasty too. I hope you are able to find one that agrees with you. If you are able to get down the drinks.. then drink them.. if not- I would try and find something that will agree with you so that you are able to get your protein in... it is very, very important!! Good luck

Hi Margie... I am confused??? Why would it matter HOW you got your protein as long as you get it??? I think it is GREAT that you are getting all the protein you need..... as long as it is working for YOU??? and you are healthy and losing weight??? I would say, in my honest opinion.. dont worry about it.... We each have to find what works for us.... It is you who will have problems with lack of protein, not your doctor.... so I would do whatever I could to continue to get the protein..... shakes, food, premixed drinks.... anything... whatever works for you !!!!
Margie,
I feel your pain. I was very ill the first 3 weeks after surgery and could not do any of the protien drinks that were recommened especially the Isopure. I also could not tolerate Designer Whey. But to my amazment I tried Nectar and it was fantastic. Can be mixed with water, is smooth and not gritty at all.
I purchase it from bariatriceating.com , others may carry it as well. They have many different flavors, Apple Ecstasy, Fuzzy navel, Lemon Ice Tea (all great) and many more. I scoop has 23 grams of protien.
It has made the difference in my recovery. When I have a taste for chocolate or vanilla I use Matrix 5.o
Thank God for my nutritionist *****searched feverishly to find solutions for me. Wish we would have found them before I lost 9 inches of hair. Oh well.
Hope those work. PS- the website I mentioned lets you order samples so you won't wast $23.00 bucks on a flavor you don't like.
Hi Heidi, Pamela here,
Yes my nutritionist did say it was because I was able to do litle to no protein initally. I was so dehydrated that that was the more major concern. I am doing fine and my hair is growing back fast. Fortunately I had very long hair (almost shoulder lenght now after cutting.)
Even my nails are growing agin.
Yikes that is a lot of hair to lose! I am glad you are doing better!
Thanks all for you input it makes me feel better that at least I am getting the 60 g of protein or maybe more now. I just thought I was kidding myself with the drinks! LOL I guess I am just way too jumpy. Just like I tried 1 egg and it hit me like a ton of bricks so I have not tried it again. Yes I know chicken! I will try it again after my 1 month follow up with the Dr. on the 26th! I can't wait to be off the just full liquid diet. I guess I should not complain so much since I (unofficially) have lost 36 pounds as of this morning! WOOHOO I am so glad to have that weight gone!
No, you aren't doing things the wrong way at all. Surgeons recommend the shakes and drinks because it's the easy way to get the protein in. Down the road when we can eat meat and stuff we won't have to have as much, but some people even 1-2-3+ years out, still have 1-2 protein drinks a day. They are good for you and you aren't hurting yourself.
I use the Isopure, too. I've been trying really hard to get protein in through solid food since my group leader thinks we should stop the liquid as soon as possible and move on. My Dr. has approved me trying anything and, so far, I've only had one problem. I bought a WLS cookbook that's got some really interesting recipes and lets you know how to serve the item depending on the type of surgery you had and the length of time since surgery. I'm still getting my protein powder in by adding it to sugar free instant pudding. It's my snack at night with just a dab of fat free cool whip on top. My biggest struggle is getting in the water! It seems I'm sipping all the time, but never quite finishing as much as I should. I'm down 25 pounds and 17 inches, so I guess I'm doing it OK. I think it's a learn as you go process and as long as you're hydrated and getting in your protein, you're on the right track.
