Protein and wound care
Vicki,
I too have trouble with eating enough and protein. I try and eat at least 2 "Atkins Morning Start" Bars. I love the chocolate chip crisp. I cut or break it up, put it in a baggy and nibble on them throughout the day. It's the only supplement I like and it has 13g of protein. I had an open RNY so I only had one incision. It leaked about 2 weeks post op for about 3 days, then dried. Just keep an eye on your incisions for infection and keep it covered and clean. Keep us posted.
I had my surgery the day after yours. I have one incision with a bit of stitch sticking out, which is otherwise healed. My main incision has fat necrosis and is healing from the inside out. I am going broke paying for bandages and paper tape. I am also terrified someone at work is going to find out and be like "EWWW GROSS". But, other than that the surgery is working its wonders, I am trying hard to choke down protein and I just keep thinking, "the wounds will heal, the wounds will heal."
Good luck!
Those protein bars made me so sick, even though they had no sugar in them. As for you insision I had open, and just last week my insision stoped leaking. It does heal from the in side out. But it does heal. I also paniced when I first saw the leaking. I need to wear my binder for the full 6 weeks the Doctor says. If you like Ice tea with lemon. I got from baratic eating a Ice tea nectar. I really like it a lot, I pour it over a lot of ice and add more water to it. The taste is good.
Maybe try some of the flavorless whey protein that you can put in your food. They sell it at GNC. Other than that, if your hair is gonna fall out, its gonna do it regardless of how much protein you are eating right now. Protein will help to lessen the blow but its not the reason people's hair falls out. It happens because of telegen effluvium. Usually caused by surgery and the lack of nutrients directly after. It's the reason the hair starts falling out at 3 months and ends around 9 months. It really is a huge misconception that eating 100grams of protein a day will stop this because it happens to people who eat that much and to those who dont eat that much and vice versa. Anyways, it's something I learned from not only my nutritionist but my dermatologist as well.

I too was having problems getting my protein in. I hate the shakes! they are way too thick for me. I went to GNC and found isopure zero carb drinks in the glass bottles. It has 40 grams of protein in each bottle and are ready to drink. THis has been my salvation. I also try to eat 1/2 cup of cottage cheese a day for 13 more grams of protein. GNC also sells a liquid protein with amino acids, 3 tablespoons = 18 g. I mixed it with crystal light raspberry flavor and it tasted like punch. But, I had a tummy ache after drinking it for about 2 hours later. Maybe it was just me I have to try it again. I hope this helps you!
