Protein and wound care
I am having a terrible time getting protein in. These supplements are horrible. I have tried several different kinds, but nothing helps. They all have that gross smell, I can't take it! Yet I know I need it so that I will have energy and my hair won't fall out. My other problem is that the incision on the left did not heal right. According to doctor today, it is healing from the inside out, so the fact that I am having a little bleeding from it, and can see the stitches is OK, nothing to worry about. Well, they may be used to this, but I am not! I still have to keep it bandaged, and unless it seems to be infected, my doctors don't want to hear about it. Is anyone else having a problem with one incision? The others are healed and dry.
I hear you about protein supplements. For some reason they make me queasy. I don't get sick, but I don't feel well either. Even tho I am on pureed food for the next 2 weeks, I've decided to buy some low carb protein bars and see if I can tolerate those. Like you, I'm worried about getting enough protein. My open incision also had a small section that healed from the inside, so I drained a little. Everything is fine now. It healed pretty quickly. I think you'll be fine.

I was leaking quite a bit at night and sometimes during the day for the first two weeks. It has kind of a strange smell too which I was sure was grossing everyone out, but no one commented. About a week later the wound had completely closed and it looks better everyday now. It does itch and I want to scratch but I'm afraid to. I have always healed quickly from surgical wounds and other boo boos. I am feeling really good. My only issue is that I tire easily still, but, I have to remind myself that I wasn't the most energetic person before my surgery either. Of all the benefits of this surgery, I'm looking forward most to having more energy. BTW, I tried a couple of protein bars and they worked fine. No tummy discomfort. I just munch on them in small bits during the day. I honestly never want to drink a protein shake again.
