Only 1 lb. Lost in the Past 2 Weeks. Help!
I know I need to be patient and I know I should focus on how much looser my clothes are and which clothes I suddenly fit in again, but this is so frustrating. I just hope there is someone out there who has had a similar experience and began to lose weight again. In the 2 weeks after surgery I lost 15 lbs. But, for the last 2 weeks I've only lost 1. Someone talk me down off the ledge, please!
Hi Donna,
I too was losing really good after surgery but it is just kind of creeping now. I think it all slowed down greatly when I entered the soft/pureed stage. The doc told me at my post op appointment to expect from 33 to 50% weight loss in the first 3 months. So if we expect 33% I am thinking the scales have to get moving again. A gal I work with said that she hits 3 week plateau's and then will drop 4 lbs. Hang in there. The doc also told me to do my measurements so that you know you are dropping inches when the pounds aren't coming off. Roxi
Donna, I was feeling the same way you were because I felt like I should be losing and I wasnt. I know it's frustruating and it is hard not to get discouraged especially while going through it. Our bodies plataeu at certain points and then all of a sudden you start dropping again. You have to remember that our bodies are in shock from the great amount we have already lost in a short period of time! Hang in there and give yourself a nice pat on the back for your loss so far Keep it up!!!

Hi Donna...I think there are many of us who know EXACTLY how you are feeling. I lost like 22 pds in the 2 1\2 weeks, then, I have only lost 4 pds since then and I am now 4 weeks out! So, with only a total of 26 pds for the first month (I was hoping for 30) I still must be careful to understand what it is my body is adjusting to! I think we expect HUGE amounts of weight to melt off and when we fit into the "normal loss" catagory, we feel like there is something wrong with us! Be patient and remember, there are many of us who are sticking to the program, doing what we can and are still losing VERY slowly! Remember....slow weight loss is better than ANY gain!
Blessings to you and remember....you are NEVER alone with OB.com! I was int he same sad mode last week....still haven't lost much more weight ( 1 pd to be exact) but, I am still on track, I need to excercise more, and I am still happy I had this surgery because I am still in better shape that I was before! I too am the same way. I lost 18lbs the first three weeks and then this last week it's been creeping. But i still managed 3lbs. Then I looked at it this way. If only lost 3lbs a week, thats 150lbs in a year. So hey that would be wonderful. Ideally, they say you should lose 1 to 2 percent of your body weight a week as a healthy means of losing weight. 1 to 2 percent for must of us is 2-6lbs a week or 8 to 24lbs a month and like i said, it may not seem like much, but those lbs do add up!!

You are not alone!!! This is very common! When we lose weight right after surgery, gangbusters like 15 lbs, our bodies go into shock and try to protect themselves by RETAINING weight and not releasing it for a while. Hang in there. Weight will come off! TRUST ME! I freaked out too when it happened to me, and I was reassured by MANY others that it's normal.
I lost 25 lbs in my first two weeks, and then I GAINED 5 lbs, then I lost the 5 lbs and then NOTHING for a week, and then I've lost about 14 or so this past week and a half. So weight will eventually come off. I'd say be patient, but I know how it is newly post-op - we want weight to DROP off solid for a good six months before we hit a plateau! Hang in there!
