Rechelle: I had surgery the same day you did. I'm eating cottage cheese, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, egg drop soup and jello. I've tried a very little piece of cheese and also a small bite of grilled chicken that I chewed forever. I also tried a couple bites of egg and some corn beef hash (just a forkfull) and loved the taste. I don't find myself wanting anything else at this time and try to focus on the protien drinks and walking. Dave

Dave, I was just wondering the egg drop soup sounds really good,do we have to strain that or have it as it is being on the pureed foods?I might just have to go get some. Rechelle

I don't strain it. I chew up the little flakes and the way our little place makes it, there's not much solid in it. It does taste great and with extra spices, awakens my taste buds! You can strain it if it needs it but the type I'm getting from this little hole in the wall place doesn't require it. Try it! Dave

I had surgery on the 17th and am on a diet similar to yours. I'm really disappointed that I'm having a strange reaction to scrambled eggs. After only a few bites they seem not to be going down and just hang there in my esophogus. I eat a lot of tuna and chicken salad. I mix the protein with fat free mayo and pickle relish to give it a kick. I don't really puree the chicken or tuna, but I chew the hell out of it. I also eat baby food. The fruit is downright delicious and the vegetables are surprisingly good. I lost 15 pounds in the 14 days after surgery but, as of Monday, I'd only lost 1.5 more pounds. I was bummed, but I'm trying to take lots of delight in fitting into clothes and shoes I haven't worn in years. I keep telling myself the weight will come off.

I really like the baby food fruit. Bananas are awesome, but everything else is very good: pears, apples, fruit combinations. And I like the pureed vegetables: sweet potatoes, beans, peas, carrots. But I really like veggies, so maybe I'm less critical. I also drink V-8 to get my veggies and really enjoy that.

Hi Rechelle, My surgery was April 1st. so I am just on day 3 of pureed foods. Yesterday I had: B Protein shake(20 g of P.) w/ 1 in chunk of banana, 1/2 c skim,1/2 tsp vanilla S 1/2 c vanilla pudding w/1T Any Whey, 1/2c skim (17g of P.) L 1/4c Cottage Cheese, 4 slices of peaches (P=8g) D 2oz Turkey(Baby Food) 1/4c Green Beans (P=7g) S 1/2c Pudding w/1T Any Whey (P=17g) I make everything with Skim Milk but I cut it in half with water till I'm sure I can tolerate it. So far so good. I throw every thing in the blender, not the most pleasing in appearance but easy on my pouch. Yesterday I was able to get 70g of Protein and 64 oz of fluid. I add Any Whey (GNC) to some things to increase the Protein amount. I keep a journal of everything I put in my mouth till I'm more comfortable with the amts. of protein and fluid I'm getting. I think you are right on target with the amount you have lost. My Dr. says people average 30#s in 30 days. Hang in there. It will get easier. Check out www.bariatriceating.com. Lots of good recipes. Good Luck! Jackie

My surgeon told me something different than the dietician did. When I went for my 10 day check-up to have my staples removed, he told me that I didn't have to do the pureed diet. I could have what I wanted as long as I chewed my food until it was mush when I swallowed it. So basically since day 11 I have had a little of everything. Meatloaf, roast, veggies, spaghetti, chicken, scrambled eggs w/cheese, baked fish, chili, and bbq just to name a few. I've eaten at McDonald's, Taco Bell, Wendy's, and other local restuarants. I tend to stick with low sugar, low fat, high protein foods though. At least 3 of my 6 meals a day is a protein drink. I also drink at least 70 ozs of water a day. I'm 5 weeks out and I've lost 37 1/2 lbs.
