bowel movements :)
Becky:
I found that I had the urge but that the protien kept me clogged up at the end of the line. I used Citricell and it really allowed me to feel free! I find that drinking more water and eating one or two prunes a day keeps me from having to use anything extra. Also, the prunes are not too bad and have a little "bulk" to them so it's an experience for my mouth while chewing.
Good luck and don't hesitate to use a suppository or enema if you have to just to get things going again.

I'm having a big problem with constipation right now. I'm am usually pretty regular. I did start having a problem with constipation when I started drinking 4 protein shakes a day prior to surgery. IT's all the protein without any bulk.
It got really bad for me, I won't go into the sordid details here, but it did take me about 3 days to finally get complete releif. I was in more pain than after surgery! I'm trying to keep it under control, but I don't think I'm doing a good job of it yet. I am periodically taking M.O.M. a little prune juice(I'm not supposed to have prunes yet, just the juice). I have some suppositories that I can use too. By the time I reach for the suppositories, it's a little too late and I'm not sure that they are helping all that much.
My Nurse told me that I can't take metamucil, benefiber or citrucel yet, then expand in your stomach and that's not good for us, this early out. My Dr. recommended colace for me, but I can only find it in gel caps and I'm not sure how well those work for us.
A friend just gave me a recipe that I'm going to try, but you should check with your Dr. first. It's a mixture of unprocessed bran, applesauce and prune juice. You make it into a paste and take a little each night. If you are interested, I can e-mail you the recipe off-board.
