Everything tastes weird!
I had my surgery 4 weeks ago tomorrow. Nothing tastes the same... water, iced tea, coffee, chocolate pudding (vanilla is now my favorite). AHAHAH! It's hard to get the liquid in when things taste strange. I mix part of a protein drink into s/f decaf tea with cranberry juice and then have a protein sunrise drink, but I need to get in the water. Will my taste buds ever return? Am I doomed to a life of tastelessness? Should I begin to research taste bud replacement? (Just kidding!)
Tasteless but looking for answers,
Susie
I am 5 weeks post op and I am just starting to sort of acquire a taste again for coffee. Before surgery I used to live on iced coffee all the employees at Dunkin Donuts knew me by name. They must have thought I vanished, I have only been there once since surgery. But it's not such a bad thing, I drank too much coffee anyway I guess. I think in time things will taste better to you again. Mine tastebuds are coming back slowly. I wish you luck in your journey!
OMG! I am experiencing the SAME thing. Like pre-op I bought chocolate CIB and protein drinks and post-op - I TOTALLY HATE CHOCOLATE! Makes me gag! LOL I can only eat/drink vanilla - weird!!
They say it's NORMAL for our tastes buds to be altered after ANY surgery. That's true I guess because my mom has had 2 surgeries in the past 5 years and after both of them, she said it takes a month or so for her taste buds to come back.
So I guess it's normal. Hang in there! Try drinking ISOPURE or Aquafina with fruit flavors to ge****er in.
Glad to know that I am not the only one! I used to love the water from our house, we are on a well, and would seriously drink 64 oz after coming home from work in the evening (and no I wouldn't be up all night). I got to the point where I could only drin**** tea. I am getting better with plain water though and it does taste good again. I can't stand eggs right now though! The smell were actually even making me gag! Things sound good that I can actually have, but then when I have then the mouth feel makes me sick. I don't vomit, but would be happy not to eat it. I used to love chicken, and would have chicken salad for breakfast even, but now I can hardly stomach chicken salad!!
Hang in there!
