Help: Foaming
I am 4 1/2 weeks post-op and I have been having "foaming" at least once a day for the last 3 days. This happened a lot last week and I slowed down my eating and made sure I didn't drink near mealtime. Im still eating slow and not soon after I drink, but it's happened at least once a day since Tuesday. I foamed today right after lunch and then tonight after dinner.
There's no rhyme or reason to it. I can eat something one day and if I eat it later that day or the next day, I foam. I've slowed down eating and don't drink near mealtime but I continue to have problems. And then sometimes when I am foaming (throwing up) I can't stop and keep gagging until I have dry heaves.
I know this is not good on my system. Any pointers or tips (besides eating slower, not drinking near mealtime) that can help. I'm SICK of this!!! (no pun intended)
Trish, I went through a little of that only to find out that it was dairy type foods causing this. They told me to keep track of what I was eating and what was in the foods that are causing you to be sick and you should find the common ingredient that is the cause this! You are in my prayers for better days ahead! Let us know how you are feeling. JK
I got some advice on another board about drinking something warm before eating (herbal tea, hot cocoa, ho****er with lemon) etc. I did that today and it worked!!
For those that don't know what foaming/frothing is...here's the definition:
What is Frothing?
As the new pouch heals, mucus sometimes is excreted to help break down food. With some patients, this mucus backs up in the esophagus and causes frothy clear vomiting. This is short lived and usually resolves by the 3rd month. Frothing is not a complication, so try drinking ho****er ½ hour prior to your meal to emulsify the mucus. Your meal should then be better tolerated.
