Hard time getting in Protein & liquids each day
I had surgery on Wedesday, 3/30 and so I am 5 days post op. Haven't had much pain, but sure am having trouble getting all the liquids and protein in each day. I love water, but sometime just a sip seems to not go down. I've only been getting in about 40 max of protein per day thus far. I am trying, but don't want to get sick trying to force it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sue
Suzy, Go easy on yourself. Little by little you'll get it in. I am not sure about the protein business. For me the first two weeks I only had 6 oz. of boost/day and the rest of the time it was water and i found decaf tea (warm) to go down nicely. The tea was actually the first thing I drank that made me feel normal. I had trouble getting in the fluids cause I took a nap everyday and your not drinking when your sleeping. But now it is much easier...it will come. Keep up the good work!

I had my surgery 3/30 as well and know just what you mean. Can't drink too much at once so it seems like all you do is sip tha****er. And the protein drink takes my about 2 hrs to get down-I think its enough protein, but come on there must be a better tasting one than I have. Sent away for some samples today and have high hopes. Don't force anything...just keep on trying to do what your Dr. told you. Good luck, you can do this.

Don't worry about getting the 70+g of protein in right now. You are newly post-op. Drink what you can, but don't pu**** I was frustrated my first week post=op thinking I wasn't getting enough protein or calories in but my surgeon and dietician said not to worry (or in my words - freak out). Your pouch and esophagus are swollen and healing from surgery. Get fluids in but take it easy. Don't pu**** 40 g of protein a day your first week out is GREAT!!! If you are having trouble drinking regular water, try bottled water or the flavored Propel or Aquafina water. They are sweet but still good for you - count as water! Hope this helps!
Hi Trish - Thanks so much for the encouraging words! Things have been much better yesterday & today. I actually got 67g of protein yesterday so felt that was something to celebrate. I'm doing well today also. Sunday was my 4th day after surgery and definitely my worse. I'm happy to say things seem to get better and better each day. Yeah! Thanks again.
