Exercise
When I was in the hospital, I was doing laps around the hallways so much! Even in the middle of the night. When I got home it took me a couple days to get back in the routine of walking again. Then this past week I have not exercised at all - besides cleaning house and stuff like that.
I know I need to exercise. Ugh!! I just need to do it. I keep thinking - TOMORROW WILL BE THE DAY. But tomorrow comes and goes - like now, it's almost 10pm. So I plan to exercise tomorrow.
I'm afraid I'm going to lose all this weight and have no tone to my body and my skin is going to sag. I think it'll do it anyway, but I want to do what I can to prevent it. I'm between jobs right now so I can't join a gym. I basically walk my dog or do exercise DVD's I have.
What kind of exercise have you been doing lately?
I have been walking after work. Luckily we have had beautiful weather and I have been able to get about a mile in most evenings. With the time change last night, I will have even more time after work to get it done. Before surgery, I was going to our health club, but I didn't have the energy after work, so I had to go at 5am and it was killing me. I can't get up that early everyday and make it through the week, so I am glad I have had the energy after work now. In a couple more weeks, I am planning on working in some weight training as that is something I always used to enjoy, but haven't been able to do it for years because I had to spend what little exercise time I had on cardio. Now that I am losing weight anyway, I feel like I can spend some time burning calories with the weights for fun instead of mandatory cardio work!

Trisha,
I know how you feel. The little devil on my shoulder tells me "you don't have to exercise" However, when I feel a little better I do plan on walking at the very least. My surgery date was the 29th so I havent regained my strength yet but when I do I am going to walk. I was thinking about this and I realize that if I don't make it priority then it will be very easy to put it off, so even if it is only 10 minutes of walking in place, I am going to try to think of exercise as part of the prescription post surgery. Maybe we can make it as much a part of our routine as taking our vitamins and calcium.?? Hopefully this helps

I am almost 3 weeks post-op and I am having the same problem. I excercized four days a week before my surgery and I haven't been able to work up to where I was before. I returned to class last monday and I find that I am really tired at the end of my day . I can only "stomach" walking about an hour once a week. Is this normal? I do park further away from class, work or the shopping mall. Am I not pushing hard enough??
