Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for the pain? I had surgery on the 29th and I am having a hard time functioning at home. I am currently taking percocet alternating with childrens motrin but it still hurts!! Thanks Carla

Hmmm.... you should talk to your surgeon. I had the surgery on the 23'd and was very sore but I would take a liquid Hydrocodone that my Doc prescribed for me and it did the trick. If you feel the pain is excessive, bug the doctor, just to be safe.

Call your surgeon - even though it's the weekend. There's a surgeon on-call all the time. Tell him you need Lorotab (liquid version of Vicodin). My surgeon gave me that with 2 refills post-op and it helps. Have your pharmacy # ready to give as well so they can call it in for you and you can go pick it up today. Also note, pain meds can cause constipation, so if you haven't already, you might want to pick up a bottle of Milk of Magnesia. It works.

Carla, I sympathize with you. I too had my OPEN RNY on the 29th. I got home this Friday and am in pain. The liquid Hydrocodone I have makes me VERY sick to my stomach, I tried crushing tylenol (YUCK) so I am out of luck. It does make it hard to get around and do things. Depressing too. I dont have any answers, but I wanted you to know that you are not alone. I agree that it would not hurt ( no pun intended) to call your on call Doc.....

I have the same problem. I was kind of feeling bad about myself, cause I thought I was being a baby, some people just pop right back up after surgery. NOT ME. I am still having such a hard time walking, and getting up from the chair. I feel like I have a charlie horse in my left side. LIke when you run alot and get a cramp in your side. I am just taking the oxycontin the doc prescribed, and I have liquid tylenol I took last night as well. I decided I might as well use the pain meds if they are there. Eileen

Hi Carla, I was prescribed Percocet. I took two every four hours for the first few days, and then dropped down to one whenever I needed it. I still have three tablets left - just in case! Last week, I was having a hard time going to sleep. I broke a Percocet into small pieces and just took a little. It did the trick! I slept great. Just be careful with pain meds. They can be hard to give up! Debbie

I don't believe in pain so if you still have pain don't suffer!!! My doctor gave me Tylenol w/Codeine liquid and I still use it at night, it helps me sleep better and there is no pain from the surgery or from my back (which is bothering me lately). I am 3.5 weeks out, my surgery was on March 10th. During the day I don't need any pain medication but that is only the last couple of days. Hang in there, things get better. I had a horrible time with this operation and I believe pain should have been better managed.
