My surgeon would not allow me to take my lasix while in the hospital. AS a result after the 4th day, I was short of breath and very "wet". Also my hands and legs were so swollen. I took a lasix as I was leaving the hospital and it is some better. Did anyone else have this issue come up???

Make sure you take a potassium supplement with your Lasix.

I do not take lasix but they gave it to me before I went home with a potassium drip. I was SO appreciative that I did not have to go home with all that extra fluid....Doc said there was enough to deal with...no sense adding puffiness to it! Thanks Doc Simon! JK

Hi Harolyn, I had RNY 3-30-05 and had ensuing "fluid" related complications. After being sent home from surgery stay, I was readmitted at another facility to treat the over build-up of fluids. Prior to surgery I took Lasix to manage my fluid retention. It took 5 days in the second hospital to get the excess fluid off because they didn't want to remove it too fast ... the surgery "connects" to bowel and stomach had to stay hydrated or die is how it was explained to me. Now I'm home and on liquid Lasix in the same dose as pre-surgery. So far so good. Hang in there, Myra
