Frustrated with my progress

I have to vent a little. I just had my weekly weigh-in and only lost 4 pounds in the last week. I can't believe it is so little. I have SOO much to lose and I feel I should be losing 10-15 pounds a week -- not 4. I have been exercising and everything. I don't know what it could be. I am thinking about having two protein shakes a day instead of just one and seeing if that is the problem. Anyone else having a weight loss slow down?

Hi Chris, Remember that when your working out you start to get mussels, and when you step on the scale it may seem your not losing, but I guarantee if you would measure your self you will be losing lots of inches. Remember mussels are heavier then fat. I know this because before I had my kids & my accedent I worked in a gym as a trainer. and if you can step on the scale every-other-week & not weekly it would be better, and measure your self, you will see the inches coming off. hang in there hun. Thanks Yami. I thought of that, but I was working out before the surgery and am pretty muscular, so I wouldn't think I would be building any new muscle. I have been measuring myself, and I did lose an inch around my chest and an inch around my stomach. It is better than nothing, but when I do the math and multiply that one inch by the number of weeks it would take me to get to that goal at this rate, I don't like the answer! I'll try to be patient and see how next week goes. I am going to try for more water everyday and maybe some more protein. Thanks! Chris S.

Yes, it has happened to me. Don't freak out. I freaked out when it happened to me, but every assured me that this is all part of our weight loss journey. Some weeks we'll lose like gangbusters and other weeks not at all or just a few pounds. Your body is probably in SHOCK from all the weight you've lost so far and is holding on to it, trying to protect your body. It's a natural reaction from our bodies. People say on here to get used to losing a lot one week and not so much the next. At least you lost 4 lbs. Hey! That's better than GAINING 4 lbs. You aren't doing anything wrong. Don't panic just because you don't agree with the scale. Don't let the scale dictate your mood/emotions. I know it's easier said than done, but I'm trying to learn that lesson as well. Hang in there!!

My first week I lost about 25 pounds..second week about 8 pounds...the last TWO WEEKS about 1 pound each. I feel like I may be done losing. Even though I know that this is completely normal, it is so darn nerve wracking. I know better but I FEEL like I did all this for nothing sometimes. Believe me when I tell you that I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT! Also realize that 10-15 pounds per week is not healthy. You're kidneys couldn't handle that sustained for months.

It just seems that being as large as I am, 10-15 pounds a week would be easy. I am not a doctor, so I don't understand this whole metabolism thing. To me, it seems like a math problem: calories eaten - calories burned = weight loss. When I am only consuming 700-800 calories a day, that is HALF the recommended daily allowance, maybe less. And someone my size walking around all day (I went back to work this week) plus going for a one mile walk after work 3 times so far this week, HAS to be burning more calories than the 2000! Oh well, there's no going back so no reason to dwell on it. (I wouldn't go back anyway!). Thanks for your post, it makes it easier knowing someone else is experiencing the same thing. Next week we'll lose BIG! Chris S.

I got frustrated about that this week too, until someone told me that I didn't gain it a pound a day and that I probably wouldn't lose it at a pound a day... We're all going to have days of stabilizing and then lose more. I gained my weight 4-5 lbs. at a time and will probably lose it that way. Someone said to take pictures of yourself through the process so that you see what is happening. Good luck, it sounds like you are doing great! Susie

make sure you are eating enough....your body will go into hibernation mode without enough calories. it thinks you are starving it!!!!!! Man I sure hope I remember all this stuff when I'm post-op, LOL Congrats to all of you losers, hope to join you soon

I LOL when I read "Man I sure hope I remember all this stuff when I'm post-op" It's amazing the things we forget post-op. There is so many things we have to remember and do and trying to get the protein in and the calcium and stuff and plus the water, oh and exercise, etc. It's a full time job! Like me, I KNEW way before my operation about not drinking 1/2 hour before, during or a 1/2 hour after eating. I knew it. I had been practicing it pre-op (sometimes) to get used to it, then I was on liquids for 2+ weeks and then when I went to foods, I kind of forgot that rule. I knew it, and it was in my nutrition binder thing I got from the surgeon pre-op, but I wasn't practicing it. Anyway, your comment was funny because it's so funny how much we know but forget sometimes. Like you are totally right - not eating too much will put your body in starvation/hibernation mode - and that's exactly what happened to me earlier this week. I wasn't getting in enough protein. And body shut down. Lesson learned!!!

I wasn't losing either until I increased to 3 shakes a day now I am starting to lose much more. I read that lack of protein puts you in a plateau.
