I gained 3-4 lbs in the hospital the first couple days post-op. That is NORMAL due to the meds, surgery, shock to your system, saline solution, etc. So it's only your 5th day post-op.
DO NOT weigh yourself daily! I know it's hard not to do, but stick to weekly weigh ins if you can. You will be losing, but the first week most people gain the first few days. That is TOTALLY normal! Sounds like you are doing everything right. You drinking your water too? You aren't doing anything wrong. Don't despair! You'll lose! Trust me!
Congrats on your surgery and for being home and doing good!! Yay!! How was your hospital stay?
I was weighed in admitting just before surgery 256. I bed I was on in ICU could also weigh the patient. I stopped listening when they listed my weight at 273. I know scales can very but that is approximate 17 pounds in three days. I'n sure it will take time to lose the IV fluids and my belly feels heavy and swollen. Bottom line, I am afraid to get on a scale because I am sure to be over 256. You are probably still somewhat pumped with IV fluids

HI!
I have to say I am thinking I am the only person on this site who does not own a scale. I started out @ 317, and morning of surgery was 303, well let me tell you coming home everything that I wore in which were nice comfy baggy clothes were tight. I ballooned up after surgery because of all the gas they pumped me full of and the liquids. Dont know what it was when I came home. I am 1 week and 5 days out and havent weighed myself once but I notice that alot of my clothing just feel better on. But I must admit that I am scared that I am not loosing anything. My 1st postop appt is Tuesday and I am alittle anxious being I dont have a scale at home to see where I am at. I have also chosen to progress my diet alittle earlier. Due to weakness on the broth/jello/juice diet I have advanced to phase II. I am taking it slow and figured that seriously in 2 days he would have told me to move on. I do feel better and definately not as depressed.
Sounds like you are doing the right things. The only other thing I can recommend that I think worked well for me was excercise. I made sure I got a nice long walk in everyday. It made me feel better and I am sure it helped me lose weight. It is motivating too because you will be surprised at how quickly you can increase your distance and how quickly your back and joint pain begin to improve. Good luck!
