Well today was my 1st post-op appointment. I have lost 29 lbs since 3/8/05! Incisions look great, surgeon said I'm doing great. I feel great! He said I can have pureed/soft foods now. I'm on top of the world. So what do I do? I go and mess it all up right after I left his office. I pull into a Wendys and was going to get a chili because that's acceptable at this stage, but instead I ordered a jr. cheeseburger. What was I thinking? Well, I took one bun off and figured I could take a bite of the hamburger, chew slowly and swallow and I'd be okay. OMG, I took a bite, chewed it slowly, swallowed, and another, then eventually another, then all of a sudden my chest tightened up and I felt like food was coming up my throat. I had to pull over and and then about 10 mins later I was fine. Why oh why did I eat that cheeseburger? Big mistake! Even my mom in the car was saying I shouldn't eat it and to take the bun off but I had just come from the doctor and was feeling great so thought that I was above everything and I was so wrong. I can't eat bread right now. Hamburger yes . Cheese yes. Bread no So that was a learning experience. Been fine since. Had melba toast and cheese around 6pm or so and then around 9pm I had a little bit of taco meat. Doing good. My advice to those newly post-op, don't ru**** Don't get overly confident and think nothing will affect you. Follow dr's orders. You can't puree a hamburger bun! Anyway, I'm excited I'm eating soft/pureed foods now. Looking forward to a cheese omelet tomorrow morning and chicken salad for lunch tomorrow. Yay!

Just when you think you're superhuman, reality steps in, huh? Thanks--you kicked me in the butt just as I start my soft foods diet. Not that I was going to do anything like that, but you never know, spur of the moment, what silly thing you might do, so your experience is almost as good as if I had done it to myself. I had cottage cheese last night and today, I'm making egg beaters scrambled eggs with ricotta, pureed out. Don't know about dinner, yet. Guess it won't involve Wendy's though. Congrats on 29 lbs! My appt was yesterday, too and I hit 32. Feels great, doesn't it?

Thank you for the warning! My follow up is on Tuesday and I have been thinking about what I can puree that will be tolerable to eat...Guess I won't try a cheeseburger! The thought of pureed meat just doesn't appeal to me....chicken salad sounds good though! Right now I just have to keep on trying to get down the Carnation Instant Breakfasts...I can't imagine drinking 2 of them a day plus 3 ounces of meat, veggies or fruit 3 times a day...and 48 ounces of fluid! I never thought I would NOT want to eat! It is a wonderful feeling!!

Hey, Trish - I'm 6months out - and I have decided not to venture there but in my last visit to Burger King my dad was eating a angus steak whopper and i had to have a try - he tore a tiny piece and I chewed and swallowed. I took a small bite of my chicken and after that couldn't eat no more - - imagine you - a newbie. But I know you'll be careful next time. Good luck to you.
