Oozing from incision

Hi. I'm 10 days post op. Open RNY. Everything was fine and dandy, back at work etc. I've been wearing my binder and following all Dr. instructions - then today someone notices a spot on my shirt and I check and my incision is leaking. Called/went to Dr. He says it's common, a 'sanoma' (unsure of spelling) and to keep it clean and change the pad. I'm worried. I'm afraid of infection and having to get one of those pumps etc. Anyone have any ideas for how to get through this safely?

I've been going through it for a week. It stopped a couple days ago but a "blister" formed in it's place. My surgeon said it would open up again (it did last night) and just keep it clean and keep it covered. It is very common. As long as the leak color is orange, you are fine. It's messy and gross, but it is normal. Hang in there and remind yourself: If this is the worst thing I have to deal with, post op, how bad can it be? Hope that helped. Take care.

Thanks, it's good to know it is 'common'. Sure is gross. Do you know how to spell what it is called? Thanks.

I had my surgery on the 14th, and on the 22th I had one half of my stitches removed, I was almost home when I noticed the front of my shirt was wet with the same stuff that came out of my drain tube while in the hospital, I freaked and called the Dr, office up and told them, they acted like its fine, its just a build up of fluids that need to come out, ok, but still unsure, I waited untill the next day and I am still leaking so I call again and now I'am told it can last for awhile untill its finished leaking. I was getting only bits and pieces of information from them. Needless to say its been 4 days and I'am still leaking. The other half of my stitches will come out on the 29th. Your back to work allready, wow, I got 8 weeks off. I'd be to tired to go back to work now. I'am also afraid of infection setting in, or the insision opening, but I believe these Drs and nurses should let us know more on what might happen with certian things such as this, instead of letting us know only bits and peices of information when asked. yvonne
