I am home, I have been for ten days, sorry I haven't posted. I have been very busy taking care of myself! Surgery went off without a hitch. I was happy going in, I think. I can't remember anything from the time they gave me the relaxing stuff in pre-op. The next thing I knew it was six at night and I was waking up in my room. What happened to the recovery room? How did they get me in my bed? Who knows! So that day from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM are totally lost. hehe I am not complaining! Hospital stay was OK, most of the nurses were great, except for one named Kate. She was arguing with me over a damned Tylenol. I wasn't due for a half hour, but I could have Dilaudid (morphine) if wanted! I had a nasty back ache, headache and generally wasn't feeling good. Besides the fact there wasn't any pain from surgery. I had a bad sore throat that the doc kept blaming on the trach tube, when I developed a fever I knew better. I begged everyone who walked into my room to give me a throat culture. No dice! They cultured my urine instead. Again So finally I pinned down the resident and he agreed to take a look at my throat, he left to get a pen light and never came back!!!!! Then I developed a nasty allergy to the tape and steri strips on my abdomen, all my skin practically disintergrated under it. OUCH! Finally I was discharged by a nurse who floated from another floor, so when I was asking my final questions she did not know. When I got home I looked at my throat and it was the most infected strep throat I had ever had. I called and yelled at my surgeon because I had been telling her for three days I had strep. How hard should it be to get a simple strep test while you are in the hospital???So the next morning I had to drive another hour and a half back to the hospital and sit in the ER for FIVE HOURS. Yes, of course I had strep (DUH!!, not hard to spot!) and they took another look at my belly and gave me some really great ointment to put on it. Meanwhile my surgeon was upstairs in the hospital and did not bother to come down and see me!! After leaving the ER everything started to go great cuz the strep cleared up and my belly too. I had some bouts of depression because I really wasn't feeling well and all I wanted to do was eat and of course I couldn't. Today I am doing wonderfully. I walked two miles this morning and am feeling pretty normal. I am so happy I did this. I have probably lost close to 20 pounds by now. Anything bigger than an 18 falls off. The more that happens the happier I will get! kristey G.

Wow, I feel so bad for you and the experience you had in the hospital! I am now 5 days post op and my hospital stay seemed like a vacation compared to yours! And how insensitive was your surgeon! Mine came in off of vacation to see me twice in the hospital and to release me! Well, I am happy to hear that you are doing better! Take Care! Aiko
