Postponed surgery
My surgery date was this Friday, the 25th.
I found out yesterday that we have to postpone the date for about a month because my blood sugar levels have been running high and they need to be under control for the surgery.
I am so disappointed! I've waited months for Friday.
I can't shake the blues.
Any suggestions?
Okay, I know that sucks. I mean, getting the surgery date initially and then planning your life around that date is huge. However, postponing the surgery might have SAVED your life! The last thing you want is to go into surgery with blood levels (or anything) out of whack and then you go to ICU or worse ..... die! So they are PROTECTING you from that. That's a good thing.
You need to turn this around and be positive. This was not your fault - do not blame yourself. You can't control what your body's system does! (I wish we could!) Hang in there. You'll get a new surgery date before you know it! Sorry this happened, but as you know, everything happens for a reason. Hang in there!
Hi, sweets:
My surgery was suppose to be TODAY! I've been working on all the pre-ops, faithfully did all my appointments. I, too, am diabetic, but I had to keep on a shake diet for several months with just a little bit of meat and vegetables, and my sugar is doing fine. I'm off two medications already.
BUT after doing an upper GI, both my surgeon and PCP overlooked an abnormality, so my surgery had to be postponed until I get an EDG. also he said I have a lot of scar tissue from previous surgeries, so I may not be able to have the Lap procedure, and may have to switch from a Lap Band to a RNY. So I don't know what is going on. I'm preparing with different classes, have the EDG on March 29, and hope to have surgery in mid April.
But I was sad and angry for a few days at the neglect of the Drs to watch my case more carefully. But then I felt better safe than sorry. So I planed another trip in between to fill in the time to go see my sone and new grand baby. That will lift me up!
My heart and prayers are with you. work hard on that sugar. If it is high, you are at much danger in surgery, and are much slower in healing.
It is worth the wait!

I know it must be very frustruating to have your surgery postponed after you have waited all this time but know that the doctors are doing it in your best interest. Keep your spirits up and you'll have another date before you know it. If you need anyone to talk to feel free to contact me. I hope you feel better and take care of yourself

"Better safe than sorry", that's what I say! my surgery has been postponed twice. The first time the day before surgery, which was scheduled for March 8th. It was found that I had blood in my urine. The second time March16th was cancelled two days before the surgery because it was found that I had a chronic bladder infection, which was why I had blood in my urine. Also I sparked a high fever. Fever and surgery don't mix post poning the surgery was best even though I was really dissapointed. I have been on antibiotcs now I'm scheduled again for March 30th. Waiting is okay if it helps with a successful surgery when the time comes. Best of luck.....
Andrea,
I know how you feel. I was supposed to have my surgery on Feb 7, 2005. They postponed it because the doctor wanted to put a vena cava filter put in me to prevent blood clots. Boy was I mad!!! They called me at 4:00pm on Friday, Feb 4th and my surgery was supposed to bethat monday. I finally had my surgery 2 weeks ago (March 7) I was mad for a while but when I came home and put my fustration on this message board, the people on here were awesome. They made me realize that my doctor was only doing this for my safety. So I am telling you the same thing, The doctor is looking out for YOU!!!!! So please don't be upset. I know it hurts, but it is better SAFE than SORRY!!!!. We are all here for you.....
