Hi... I am new to this site... I am having RNY Lap on Tuesday 3/29. I am scared to death, excited and just want it over with!! I am wondering, I am taking one class this semester (Microbiology) and hope to be able to return to class the Monday after surgery. Do you think it is possible. It is just one class and lab. Also wondering how everyone deals with children (3yrs old) after surgery. Is it all possible??

Can't answer any of your questions, but I may know how you're feeling. My surgery is Monday 3/28, the day before yours. I'm having fun packing! Hugggs, Heidi (((*)))

Welcome Kathleen! I am going to school as well to be a surgical tech and at first decided to go back after one week but the more I thought about it and the further I progressed in my hands on training, I realized that even missing a week I would fall way behind and it would be difficult to catch up on my hands on. My teacher also agreed and I am taking a month off and jumping in where I left off in a different class.. I don't know if you have that option available to you.If you have the ability to do work at home or are able to make it up when you go back then I think it would be possible for you. I can't really help you out with the children part of it because I don't have any... but I wish you luck with your surgery and I hope you have a speedy recovery... Don't take on too much while you are recovering and take care of yourself. I wish you much success Bonnie

Hi Kathleen, My name is Alanda I had my surgery on feb 1st I am a RN my job is primarily a desk job ( doing alot of paperwork) no direct patient care my Dr. told me to take 3 weeks off but I went back after 2 weeks I was very tired and wore out at the end of the day, but if you are only taking one class maybe it will be okay I think you need to really wait and see how you feel. you might still have your drain in at one week and you need to ask your Dr. what his feelings are about you going back so soon. Will he let you drive that soon? mine would not untill week 2. I also have a 1 year old grandson living with us I had no problem lifting him but i just had to be real careful not to let him pull my tube, or hit my left side that is were all the major work is done so that side is quite a bit more tender than the right. You can Email me at [email protected] and I will give you my phone number if you want to talk about surgery or send me your number and I will be glad to call you. Best wishes Alanda Escoe
