I'm Home!!!
Hello everyone!
I am home from the hospital for 2 days now, and I finally asked my husband to set up the computer for me so I could log in and give a progress report! Thanks to everyone who emailed me their good wishes and prayers, they were definately heard and answered!
The actual surgery was on the 15th. I was scheduled for 1 pm but the patient before me only took 2 hrs instead of the projected 3-4, so I was up as soon as I had checked in! No time to get cold feet, or even be nervous! Which was good, because for some reason I felt very calm. Almost like the calm before the storm? I was beginning to wonder if there was another unknown reason why I was so relaxed about it all! I felt like everyone else is nervous, why am I not?
Surgery went great, and my husband was very happy when Dr. Ali came out and said I was "textbook". It definately settled his mind! I was in the hospital, UC Davis, for 4 days instead of 3. Why? On day #2 I became dehydrated so my heart rate went thru the roof, but physically, I felt normal. Once they gave me 5 IV bags and my Atenenol, I was fine. They kept me in for 1 more day to make sure my heart was fine, which it was, and I was released late friday afternoon.
I have started with the blenderized soups and lite yogurt, along with the Isopure shakes. I am soo looking forward to eating something solid, like an egg! In time. I am just so damn glad to be home! I am not the best person to be a pin cushion, and got a bit tired of it after a few days. Now I am waiting for all of the pin ***** spots and bruising to go away.
So now starts the other part of this journey. I have a pair of size 14 jeans waiting for me in a bag under my bed. Greg (my other half) and I are going to see Lynyrd Skynyrd in May, and it is my goal to (hopefully) be able to wear those jeans on that night, but we'll see! I'm in a tight 18 right now, so maybe I will get my wish!
Well, my dog BamBam is wanting my attention, so I should close for tonite. Again, thank you so much for the support you have all given to me! It has been a true blessing to find you all and know someone else out there feels just like me!
Love and hugs! Jump on in!! The ride is AWESOME!!!!!!!
Laura
So glad you were "textbook" that is music to my ears! Great! Glad they made sure you were okay before discharging you. I have one more week of liquids to go myself and I can't wait to chew something. I'm already drooling and dreaming about it.
You are going to be losing so much weight this month!! You jus****ch yourself go. It only gets better from here!!!
Welcome home Laura!!
I had my surgery on the 14th and feel ok. We must be about the same size as I was in a tight 18 also. Im on clear liquids until Thursday when I go to get my drain pulled out.
Sorry for your dehydration ordeal! Make sure you keep hydrated now that you are home and dont over do it!! LOL...you seem to be so full of energy!! Im sure you will be in those jeans for that concert!!!
Hugs,
Michelle
Hi, Congrats on your surgery! Another fellow 3/15'er. Mine was early in the morning -- I, too did not really feel nervous. I did get a bit emotional when I thought of my kids, but that was it.
I understand about the desire to have real food again. I don't particularly have an appetite, but I keep fantasizing about using a spoon or fork for a meal and maybe more than two minutes of preparation.
Strange, this journey is.
Good luck to you!
