9 days Post Op
Hi Everyone, I had my surgery on March 8, everything went well, no complications. For those of you who are anxiously awaiting surgery, I was in your shoes a couple of weeks ago, very nervous and scared, but excited to have it over with at the same time. Now looking back, it wasn't that bad at all.....I was in the hospital two nights, the first day after surgery I spent sleeping off the medications, the 2nd day I spent feeling a little queazy from the medications, but by my date of discharge on the 3rd day, I was feeling 100% better, it was amazing. I've been home for 9 days and feel great, I mean really great !! I've had no regrets so far. I've lost 14 pounds. I'm sort of hungry though, not sure whether I should be or not. Is there anyone else out there who is a couple weeks out who is feeling hunger pangs? Karen
Congratulations Karen on your successful surgery. I had mine on 3/4/05 so I am just a few days ahead of you. I have the opposite question as you have, I haven't been hungry at all, but when I eat my soup, I feel like I should be full but I don't have that sensation either. I think it may be our minds playing tricks on us! Do you think it may be "mental hunger"? I know the hardest time for me is when my family sits down to eat and I smell all that great food! It is amazing how good fish sticks smell when you haven't eaten solid food in over 2 weeks! Do you find yourself feeling that way when you smell other food? Are you bored when you feel hungry? You might be able to fight it if you try to stay busy whenever you are feeling this way. I go for a walk outside when the family sits down for lunch so I don't have to smell it. That way I get excercise and don't have to sit through the torture of watching them eat! Just a suggestion. Hope things continue to go well for you.

Hi Chris, I think you might be right on the "mental hunger" issue......and yes I'm having the same feelings of wanting food when I smell food. Luckily for me, it's only myself and hubby here (daughter is away at college), so I don't have to feel compelled to cook or anything, and my husband is pretty self sufficient in the kitchen. But, whenever he does cook, I'm overwhelmed by hunger it seems. I'm almost thinking that my surgery is not going to be successful. My current fantasy is a one of those Arby's chicken wrap sandwiches that I'm seeing on TV all the time. But, give me a day, that fantasy will change..... Like you, I've been doing the soup, yogurt, eggs routine for the past couple of days....maybe I miss crunching......and except for immediately after my surgery, I haven't gotten the "feeling full" sensation yet. Good suggestion on the walk, I need to get my rear end in gear on that anyhow, I'll try that tomorrow when I'm sitting here by myself fantasizing about food......Let me know how you are doing......Karen
