9 days post op - yeah!
Well, I'm home and recuperating - doing great with no complications. I'm wondering if I'm eating enough. I just don't want anything and I have to make myself eat.
Today, I ate 2 bites of scrambled eggs for breakfast and 2 Tablespoons of refried beans with cheese for lunch. Then, I ate a sugar-free popsicle for a snack this afternoon - that seemed to be the only thing that tastes good.
I'm working hard to get my vitamins and protein drink down, but this is coming slowly.
Do you all think I'm eating enough or too much? Just not sure how much and how often to eat.
Hi Tammy, I also am 9 days post op and also have had no complications....but I'm opposite of you, I'm starved !! I had my first post-op checkup yesterday, and my doc says to eat what you are comfortable with, and listen to your stomach. When you are full, don't eat. So, if you are not feeling like eating yet, I would not worry about that, just make sure you are getting your vitamins. I've tried quite a few of the protein drinks, but the one I like the best is the Atkins Advantage....comes in an 11 oz can and has 20 grams of protein, lots of other vitamins and the chocolate tastes pretty good. If you did a couple of those a day, plus your vitamins, I think you could just eat as you felt like eating without worrying about not getting enough nutrients. Let me know how you are doing.........Karen
I wouldn't worry about how much you are eating at this point. It seems like everyone's Dr. gives them different recommendations after the surgery. I had mine on March 4th and am still on a full liquid diet for another week. As long as you are getting your liquids and your vitamins, your body will burn the fat for energy, which is our goal anyway. I think it is great that you can eat those foods already, you must be healing well. I am only drinking Crystal Light, a protein drink, and a bowl of tomato soup every day, with perhaps a sugar free fruit juice popsicle thrown in. I know for myself it is hard to comprehend just how little our bodies need to function when I was stuffing it full of garbage in such huge quantities. When I had my first bowl of tomato soup (first in my lifetime) I commented to my wife how great it tasted and wondered why I had never tried it before. She said it was because I never considered soup a food before so I wouldn't eat it, I needed something more substantial. I have a lot to learn about portions and what constitutes a meal! Good luck and I hope you continue to recover quickly!
