I went through a really hard time about 2 weeks before my surgery, too. I worried about everything, wondering if I should cancel it, terrified I'd have awful complications. I got past it. My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning, and I'm very calm and at peace with my decision. The waiting really does seem to be the worst part. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I am exactly where you are at - a nervous wrec****ep wonderfing if I have enough help lined up for the days to follow (I have a 2 year old and a 13 year old), what to tell people about being off work, and the fact that I don't seem to be losing any weight and following the low carb diet they want me to be on. Mine is the 31st. It nice to hear that these feelings will eventually pass. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Yvonne-Don't worry it's ok and pretty normal to be nervous. I am 2+weeks post-op and I totally understand how you feel. I am lucky that my surgeon understands how his patients are and that we will overeat up until the last minute so he recommends a high protein, low fat, low carb diet for the 1 week prior to surgery but allows for us to still have our 1 last big meal before surgery up until the 2days prior when we have to go onto a clear liquid diet. I think I gained up to 5 lbs extra, but it was no problem for my surgeon he operates on people up to 450lbs and I was approx 311 on the date of my surgery. I just definitely suggest to consider not only what you want to eat but how good it is for you too, because after the surgery you will always have to consider food as fuel not just your pleasure. I stayed away from fast foods for the 1week prior and mainly ate expensive but very good foods like pasta with grilled chicken at Carrabbas, steak and vegetables, you know-quality. Try to think of this time as learning to take care of yourself because that's the reason you decided to do this surgery and believe me it gives you back the control you feel like you are lacking now. I am never hungry, but that's not to say I wouldn't like to be able to eat the same old fatty stuff it's just that I know I cannot and would not want to hurt my body with it. I have lost approx 30lbs, not sure because I don't have a scale at home, but I can tell by the way I look and feel. It's all worth every minute of this getting ready, going through the surgery, the recovery, and the new life ahead. Take care!
Hi !! I can SO relate to you. My anxiety level is also thru the roof!!! As for gaining at the last minute. My doctor made me go on a liquid diet for the 2 weeks prior to the surgery. It will help you shrink your liver so it will make the surgery better and it keeps you from BINGEING!!! I too, have to lose another 4 1/2 pds by the 28th to prove that i will do as he asked. So GOOD LUCK to us both !!! I am eating Progresso soups and drinking protein shakes. And if i have to have a treat, i eat 2 blue bell sugar free popsycles!!! It helps.....
