Trouble with pureed foods
I am starting my third week post-op and tried to have some tuna yesterday. I chopped the tuna up real fine and added just a little bit of mayo. After eating one ounce I got sick for the first time since surgery. I understood that I could have tuna pureed in a processor as long as it was very fine. The only new thing that I have been able to eat so far this week is an egg. Did I do something wrong? What else can I have?
Wow!! I'm glad you are able to eat stuff like that your third week out. I'm one week post op and after my dr visit on thursday we will be on full liquids for like three weeks. We can have mashed potatoes and strained cream soups. Stuff like that. Guess every dr is different. Sorry you had a string of bad luck. As for the low fat mayo, good luck with that stuff. I hear it's an acquired taste. Hubby tried it one time and he's a BIG mayo fan (which I'm not) anyway, he said it had an odd taste to it. But, best of luck to you. Amanda
I haven't tried tuna yet, but I just started soft foods yesterday. I was told you have to use either fat free or lowfat mayo or miracle whip. I will try later today with my "just 2 good" hellmans and let you know later. However, according to my dietician we can try many things. Creamed soups are ok but try the lowfat ones first, lowfat hard cheese grated over instant mashed potatoes, malt-o-meal or cream of wheat or grits, pureed meats like deviled ham, chicken, and tuna is ok as long as it's very finely chopped perhaps in a food processor, lowfat margarine, mayo, scrambled eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, and one of my favorites fruit smoothies with fresh fruit and sugar free kool-aid or crystal lite. I like to have a smoothie so I can add in my protein powder and it has good flavor not like just the protein drinks on their own. Take care and Good luck!
