4 days to go, actually it's more like 3 1/2. I was perfectly fine about everything until last week. Now I'm really starting to freak out! Thursday Morning seems to be so much closer than it did yesterday! I trust my surgeon and I know that God has been with me during my entire journey but..... Ok, I just have to calm down. What should I bring to the hospital? Does anyone have suggestions? Oh well, it's late and I need to sleep if I can. Thanks all. Pat

This is what I am bringing on Tuesday: underwear, pads (if your period is coming), something loose to wear when you leave the hospital, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, baby wipes since you won't be showering, robe, slippers (closed back), socks, a pillow to hold on to when you cough, CPAP machine if you have sleep apnea, brush and hairbands if needed, lots of chapstick because your lips are going to be dry and you may lose the tubes while on the bed, stuff to keep you distracted (ie: knitting, mags, books, journal and pen, CDs and CD headset, etc.) Hope this helps. My doctor's secretary had the surgery and filled me in. Good luck and don't be nervous...just keep telling yourself that when the surgery is over...you will be happier, healthier and creating a new life for yourself!!! I keep telling myself that...I am 21 and I intend to live a long life. My prayers are with you! Sweet dreams!

Patricia, Calm down and relax sweetie...everything will be fine. Im about 3 weeks out and the surgery is a breeze....as for what to bring to the hospital..the docs gave me a list of stuff and i didnt end up using it..the only thing i did use was pads..i dont know if any of you know this, but about 2 days after surgery your hormones are screwed up and it causes a lot of women to start even if they arent suppose to...so just prepare for that to happen. If this is something that you truly want, then let it happen. Dont get upset or worry yourself. Just remember that you want your life to be better and this will make it that way. Enjoy the ride Patricia...its really not that bad good luck! Maggie

I'm one week postop today. What I did as I got closer, Patricia, was first to go to the before and after photos and just look at the success stories. I suggest you do NOT read any personal profiles, because sometimes you hit a land mine (somebody who had complications) and it doesn't help. Just look at the dramatic changes in the pictures and think about how badly you want that for yourself. Second, I visualised myself one year postop: How I'll look, how I'll feel, what friends and family say about me, clothes I bought, things I can do that I can't do now, etc. Make it as VIVID as you can. Then, I visualised myself a year later if I HADN'T had the surgery! That lasted about 10 seconds and I practically SKIPPED into the OR. Remember that this is YOUR first experience with WLS, but it isn't your surgical team's first. Put your body in the hands of your surgeon and everything else in God's and you'll be fine. BTW, one week out, I'm sore, but WAY better than I thought I'd be. Make sure you have a chair you can get in and out of easily (one that doesn't rock helps), get all the rest you deserve, and walk as much as you can. Welcome to your new life!! Good luck!!

Relax. I'm 6 days out and when I went in I only took the lose fitting clothes I had on. The hospital I went to provided everything for me. As for free time I used that time to nap. I had a loud neighbor. Anyhow, the hospital gave me everything even a shower cap thing to wash my hair. All I had to do was put it on my head, put all my hair in it and scrub like I was washing my hair. Then just take it off and comb. It was great. wish I could find them for trips and stuff. But anyhow, just take what you think and if you use it, you use it. Eileen

Thank you guys for your help. I feel better today than I did last night, hopefully I will be able to sleep better tonight. I've got so much on my plate (figuratively speaking of course) this week. At work I've got a huge project that is rolling out on Tuesday night and then with the surgery on Thursday, well, I will be looking forward to the drugs so I will finally get a good sleep. God bless you all, Pat
