I am home just shy of 24 hours now, a little rough, can't seem to eat much at all, things smell weirder too. I tried to drink water and it made me feel sick. Now I am scared, because it hurt. It is a weird feeling to drink it and feel it hit bottom still cold too. Is that normal??? The pain has not been too bad today, resting alot. Very sluggish still, I know that will pass, but it is weird.

Hi, Cassandra: I am glad to see that you are going OK. My surgery is two weeks from tomorrow. I just met with my surgeon and nutritionist Friday. I discussed water with the nutritionist and she said some people find straigh****er nauseating, but I could put a little lemon (or something else I can't recall right now--sorry!) to help. I guess this just adds a little acid that your stomach probably doesn't have right now. Good luck!

Hey Cassandra, I am almost 3 weeks out and had the same problem with water. It was only a couple of days ago that I could even tolerate water....it is normal and it will take about a month they told me before it is easy to drink. Try some room temperature apple juice diluted with some water. Or you can try crystal light..that seems to go down easy for me. Dont worry though, things will get much easier. Maggie

Hi Cassandra, I am one week post-op. I've been home for 3 days, and I'm feeling rough, too! Smells have been bothering me, too! I have a heightened sense of smell. I've been walking around with air freshener, but when I open the windows, I get so cold (I'm in Germany). I've been very cold since the surgery. Plus, I got Thrush on Saturday due to the antibiotics. It's a condition where your tongue gets covered with a white film. So, in addition to all the WLS meds and vitamins, I'm on 2 Thrush meds. It's hard to keep all the water down. The few times that I have gagged, it's been from plain water. Crystal Lite bothers me due to the sweetness. Ginger Ale added to water was okay - but just a little. Cranberry Juice and water has been good. It is strange to actually feel every single thing you swallow as it goes along it's way! I sure hope we feel great soon! Sincerely, Debbie

Hang in there, Cassandra. I'm one week out and it gets better every day. I can tolerate water, but it just gets boring. Fruit2 O is my friend. I drink the lemon (tastes like lemonade) and it is fresh tasting when nothing else in the world is. Keep the outlook positive and you'll be dancing around in no time!
