Pre-op confusion

I also was told that I would be taking two flinestone vitamins, iron tabs and tums for calcium. Is there any other neccessary vitamin/minerals I should talk over with my surgeon. I get my pre-op bloodwork and will see him Tuesday march 1st. I am scheduled the 11th. Also I got whey protein powder unflavored no sweeteners. It is a sickningly sweet powder. I wonder if there is one that you can supplement to your pureed food to make sure you are getting enough protein each day that is not as distasteful?

HI Robin! I am also a march 11ther! You may want to try the Nectar protein powder, it comes in various flavors, and from what I hear it tastes the best to put in with your daily water. I have also been instructed to use MuscleMilk once a day. As for vitamins, I was told that generally, 1 multivitamin/day, and an extra calcium supplement. Also, someone from my local support group suggested that I have tums and some sort of gas reducer, like GasX on hand for when I come home... Good luck to you!!!

Hello Robin, My WLS program includes 4 prior meetings with a nuritionist and 6 post surgery then every 6 months for life. At our last meeting we talked about vitimins. They reccoment OPTISOURCE its by the people who make Optifast. It will have all of the B12, folic acid, iron that is reccomended post surgery for life. You will have to add about 500mg of calcuim on top of that daily. Post surgery you will chew 4 tablets daily then 6 monts post and for life you will only need two pills a day plus your calcium. My nutritionist says we can do the flinstones route but, it lacks on folic acid, iron, calcium and b-12. Which are the 4 vitimins/minirals that are the most common to be low in people who are post gastric bypass. I hope this helps LadyBug's Mommy aka Rachel feel free to e-me

Hi robin!! I have a date on march 22nd, my nutriontist told me about a protein supplement called ANY WHEY by Bariatric Advantage, I haven't recieved my order from them yet, but my nutritionist says it has no flavor at all and it is great for protien. is this the stuff that you have already? if not, it might be what you are looking for. they also sell all of the vitamins and supplements offered by Opitfast which was mentioned earlier. i hope this helps! and if the Whey product you have is the same, I would love to know, because I wouldn't want it if it was really sweet! Thanks and good luck!!! Hillary
