If you are having lap surgery, gas pains seem to often settle between your shoulder blades during the first week following surgery. It is just the excess gas that they fill you with to get to where they need to be. I don't know of anything you can do about it except to walk it off. If it is digestive gas you are concerned about, you might try the infant gas drops. I did not have that problem at all following open surgery. Good luck! Joy

Hi Dawn, I am preop too going in on 3/16 and I am expecting horrible gas pains. About a year ago I had to go in for an emergency hysterectomy and had no idea what they were talking about with gas pains until I was released. Oh dear god....... this will sound very gross and I am sorry if I offend anyone, but everytime I tried to have a bowel movement or pass gas I was in excruciating pain enough to make me cry. It left me shaking on the throne. That is something I really am not looking forward to again. With any luck I wont have that same problem, maybe it was something directly related to me developing sleepy bowel syndrome. But it was a good 2-3 weeks before those pains stopped. Good Luck to you on your big day. I will be praying for you and that you have a speedy recovery. If you ever need to talk I am only an email away. Like you I am very happy to have found my fellow marchers!!! It is somehow calming knowing that so many people will be walking the same path that I am at the same time. Bye for now....

Congratulations on your March 16th date! So your expecting the gas pains in a big way. Are you doing the open? After reading these posts I am kinda feeling maybe I will not have that experience as bad as I thought with the open. I can only hope. Seems I am fretting over different stages of the surgery and just trying to get a grasp of everything I need to be prepared for. I think the worse then when I know I can deal with the worse I start thinking and just maybe it wont be that way for me, lol my own strange process. I wish a speedy recovery for you too and great success! Dawn
