Hi Ya'll from Virginia!!
Greetings Everyone!!! March 1st is my 7th anniversary and my weight is still the same as it was after surgery! Yeah! However, I did suffer a setback five months ago. I had a bowel obstruction through a hiatal hernia! Very rare; never seen by my bariatric surgeon who is a professor with 30 years experience. The bowel did not die and I did not have to have a resection but I did loose 30 pounds. Guess what caused it? You won't believe this!! I had a hysterectomy using the DaVinci robot six weeks earlier; they had to invert the table so my guts would roll downhill so they could "get to the parts" and pumped me full of lots of air, highly compromised when you have had plastic surgery on the old tummy, and it opened up a hiatal hernia. After surgery, the bowel just kept slipping in and out of the hernia and as it got bigger, it got stuck. They tried to fix it laproscopically and could not. They had to open me up (10" incision after nice plastics five years ago) and then the incision got infected. Now I had an opened wound that required a new hospitalzation and 10 weeks of packing the wound!!! Merry Christmas, right? ! Then I lost my job! Last week, I developed an incisional hernia next to the incision and have to have it fixed this month. My husband had back surgery that failed and he is now on disability and cannoty work. Whew! After all that, I am still sober (cross addicted at 2 years post op) and I am proud to say that I just picked up my four year chip at AA!
But you know what? I am ok, grateful to AA, grateful for this surgery and the job outlook is good for this 58 year old CPA once I get through this last fix-er-upper! I am celebrating my 40th wedding anniversary on March 13th, have two great grandkids, a new puppy and I would have this surgery all over again for the new life it gave me! I'm drinking lemonade this morning, made from the lemons life has thrown me. Won't you have a glass with me?
Cheers!
Karen
