Dexa Scan/Shrinking Woman Here!!

I had my dexa scan today to find out how bad the osteoporosis is. The
amazing thing is
the lady asked me how tall i was, I said 5'5, she then checked & i am now
only 5'2 1/2. Big Shock!!  Had no idea my height had changed so much in
such a short time.
I am shrinking due to the fracture in my spine & the bad disk I have. Now After the
reports are actually in, we work on a surgery date for fixing the fracture
of T8. Then I can get back on the looking for work trail.(after surgery) I will get some
of that back after surgery, but. some of the loss will be permanent.

So sorry you're having so much trouble, but once you have the surgery I'm sure you'll feel like a new woman! Judy

Actually this is the same back trouble I have had for sometime. I needed the dexa scan to see how bad the osteoperosis is. I already knew about the fracture & the surgery
will fix that. Get some of the bone loss back, but, not all of it.
I have started paperwork to see if I can get ssi disability because of all of this. Even
for a temporary period of time, would be some income while I re-coup from the
back surgery.
I might not get it, but, i won't know if I don't try.
I see my spine Doc on the 15th & will see what the next step is & whe the surgery might be.
Might as well get it out of the way before I do get a job, as I would have to quit to have this surgery anyway. Not a good start to any new job. Oh BTW I have to have
back surgery next week. I don't think they would appreciate that too much.

Marilyn, have your doctor do a blood test for hyperparathyroidism - your symptoms are classic, especially the loss of height over a very short period of time. What are you taking on a daily basis in terms of your vitamins and supplements - I mean daily, what are you taking? M.

I was only taking 2 multi's a day for awhile due to cost.
I now take that along with my iron script
Vit c
Cal/Magnesium Liquid
Potassium
Zinc
Vit A Once in awhile (not everyday)
I don't have money for all that I am suppose to be taking, but, with the anemia problems had to get back on the iron & vitC.
Will find out next week how bad the osteoperosis is.

Some of the shrinkage is due to that spine fracture & some is from the desinigrating
disk, some is from the osteoperosis. I will get some back after surgery, but, not
all of it.
