I am actaully having the MRI in a few hours today. This will tell us what's up. I was told
by my Doc's office to not leave without the films. So I already knew that. He wasn't sure at my last appt. what kind of infection is eating away at my bones yet, that is why
the MRI. He suggested that it might be the osteopenia. I will know in about a week
where I go from here., He just said it is not good, but, It is also NOT cancer.
That is a good thing.
I already have a pain doc scheduled in Sept. Earliest appt I could get. The only one
in town apparently. By then I should have more answers when I go to him.

Wow..Connie!

Please keep us posted!  I only take Motrin on an occassional basis and with a Prevacid.  I NEVER take Advil due to what I have heard about kidney problems associated with it and stomach issues.  I usually take Tylenol.  The problem with other stronger pain killers is that Vicodin has Tylenol in it and Percoset has Ibuprofen in it!  So everything STILL has the stuff included!  READ leaflets/bottles before you swallow, huh?

I will keep you in my prayers!

Thanks, Karen.  Absolutely everything has a side effect, doesn't it?  I think everybody should be careful about what goes into their bodies, but especially us.  Vigilant, vigilant, vigilant...

Connie,
I  did (am doing) the ulcer thing since October of last year.  My surgeon did the scope - no perforation but my whole pouch was ulcerated.  I'd been taking Mobic for years...not smart but it's reality.  I was put on the just newbie post-op diet....NO solid foods at all for a month.  I did a month's worth of Protonic and drank Carafate like it was water.  Also took Previcid twice a day (still doing that and probably will for life)  and eliminated all acids (tomato products - lemons- anything pickled - you get the idea) from my diet.

No NSAID's ever again...no matter what.  I'm supposed to have another scope in the next couple of weeks...but have done pretty well since about March.

Hi Virginia - Doesn't it figure that I just pickled 25 pounds of cucumbers.  No acid for me.  I'm so sorry that you went (are going) through that.  I asked my pcp if I should go back to my surgeon and he felt that a Gastroenterologist would be better.  I hope he's right.  I feel like my surgeon might have been a better bet, but I've got other issues that the Gastro Guy can address.

Have you been told to increase your protein even more?  I've been told that taking acid blockers and antacids blocks the absorption of protein.  I have no idea how I cn possibly get in more protein than I do now.

I can completely understand taking the Mobic.  I presume you took it for arthritis and that is such a deep seated ache.  How are you doing now that you're not on it?  Have you found something to take its place?  I'm on muscle relaxers, anti-spasmodics and pain meds, but they don't quite cut it.  There's still that deep pain that never leaves.  The closest I've come to no pain was the Celebrex and I was sorely tempted to take it longer than the 30 days that I did.

Let me know how the scope goes.  I'm sending happy, positive thoughts your way.

Connie,
I was referred a gastroenterologist doc first....but I quickly scheduled an appointment to see my surgeon.  The gastro doc couldn't get her head around my "new" plumbing and thought it unusual that I still had an intolerance for food.  She stated that 5 after years I should be eating like a "normal" person. I ran to the door and never looked back.

My surgeon did want me back on my protein shakes - he was surprised when I told him I drank 2 to 3 every day.  He stated that type of compliance was unusual 5 years out.  He did stress that it was very important to keep up the supplements.

I went off the Mobic "cold turkey".  That first month was killer...I survived on Arthritis strength Tylenol during the day then Flexiril and Darvocet once I got home from work.  I religiously took a Glucosimine/ Chondroiton/ MSM supplement recommended by my rheumatologist.  After a couple of months I was able to slowly cut out the flexiril and all but one Darvocet.

I'd really encourage you to call your surgeon's office and talk with them before you let anyone else stick a scope into your pouch.

Keep me posted.
