Ok, so the leg crams yesterday were the worst they've been; this is getting much worse for me. I couldn't stand up to walk off the cramp because the muscle had seized so badly in my upper left thigh. Research says that this can be any number of conditions including (Pam, Connie) Hypothyroide Disease. But other things as well. Is anyone other than me and Marilyn suffering from leg cramps? Any other issues that you didn't have prior to your surgery? I'm gonna get my blood workup done and try to see what's going on. But I wanted to start this thread to sort of do a medical check in on each other. Good day, everyone - take care. Maureen

Yes I get them. I always have had a issue with them right from when I was a teenager so there just might be something about that thyroid thing!
I would call whatever doctor your comfortable with and make an appointment for a visit.
If it was me I'd go to the naturalist first. I LOVE mine! she is all the way out in windham but there is another who is very good from what I hear in Mystic. I'm sure there are others near us Reenie if your inclined to try something different.
Sometimes when I get them I feel my legs are brused on the inside cause they will hurt throughout the day long after the cramp is gone.
the worst i've gotten are the ones who start up at my buttocks skip the upper thigh then go right into the calf and down through the toes. my toes have curled up! I HATE those! If I'm in bed its hard to get out of bed with those then i hobble around on a cold floor. I have wood floors in my bedroom that helps alittle bit too.
i dont' always get them at night sometimes i get them during the daytime. those are usually because of my back issues. its a pain when i'm in a meeting and they hit. i know which chairs to avoide for the back caused leg cramps!
good luck if you need telephone numbers of the naturelist doctors let  me know and I can email them to you.

she's actually very well known her names is Dr Fran Storch ND shes just a few miles down from the east brook mall.
I heard about her from a customer in Jewett City which amazed me becasue they are so far from each other. The customer in jewett city is one  of the health food stores that i go to. i like the owners alot. thye are very knowledgeable abuot their products and issues that yo hear alot about today like celiac.
i went in there one day after visiting my surgeion and his dietician asking for help because i was not better and didn't like what they had told me. He suggested her. She's been fantastic. I'm sure you would like her.
She takes the time to talk to you you are not rushed and she listens. To everything you tell her. Nothing is a small thing she wants to know it it helps her to figure out what to do. She has another by pass surgery patient too. She hunts to find answers and if she can not help she will get you to the person who will.
I would almost bet money Reenie that she would find a thyroid, vitamin D, vitamin B12 just to start issue. She runs more extensive blood work than what we get at our doctors. She also is not satisfied with lumping everyone into a set box or number. So if my number is within a normal range but i am having issues that go along with something not being right she takes care of it.
i go to her again in august.

Goodmorning Pammi...Im wanting to say he was either 66 or 67, when he had wls...other then the leg cramps he is doing fine. My mom had it as well at the ripe age of 63, besides the normal slight regain (20 lbs), she is doing good, she has no problems at all.

Mine are def worse when I work and am on my feet for a few hours.  You're at the gym again so maybe that is increasing the intensity.

The worst attack I ever got was when I hiked the Grand Canyon last year or was it the year before.  I didn't have them before the canyon hike.  Leg cramps were to be expected after a 10 mile hike down rocky terrain, but this was just craziness.  My calves would cramp, both of them, and when I stretched out of that, the shins would cramp.  If I tried to stretch out of that, I was rewarded with foot and thigh cramps along with the calf cramps.  I've never experienced anything like that.  My sister was beating on my legs and pushing and pulling trying to help, but my muscles were rock hard.  This went on for hours and it was brutal.  People in worse physical shape than me were just fine.  If I wasn't better in the morning, we were seriously thinking of medivacing me out of there.  Luckily the cramps were gone the next day and at the end of the trip, I rode out on horseback because of my back.  I shudder to think of what my legs would have felt like after a 10 mile hike up out of the canyon.  I never related the leg cramps to wls, but I guess that makes sense now.  I've been having leg cramps at night ever since.
