My Tummy Hurts!

Hi Everyone!

I have been in a lot of pain these past few months and really don't know why.  When I eat, my stomach bloats and the distension and gas is just so painful.  I am not consitpated; but the gas feels like I am!  I went to the bariatric surgeon and he did an upper GI and determined that I do not have an ulcer, my stoma looks good and so does my pouch.  Said there might be a little bit of scar tissue in the small intestine, but nothing of any magnitude.  So...I stopped drinking Diet Cokes and started chewing my food more and eating slower...that seemed to help some of the time.  But not today.  I have a call in to the doctor again...What could it be?

Thanks for listening!

Hi Karen, yikes! I'm so sorry for your discomfort. I know when I eat foods that I shouldn't be eating (and I am not suggesting this is what you're doing, only that this happens to me when...) - my stomache gets very bloated and the gas is terrible. I don't have the kind of pain you're describing though, except in extreme cases of gas - and I know what that is and why and I wait for it to pass - no pun intended! Take a look at what you're eating and ask yourself, is this out of the norm of what or how I normally eat? No matter what, you're smart to get it all checked out. Please let us know how you're doing - I'll worry about you until I hear all is well! Maureen

I for one do not like how my body changes.
Ok so I"m older and I expect changes but geesh!
After the surgery the gas problems were unbelieveable. the sounds were something that just did not sound like they shoudl be coming out of my body. And the smells. ok ok I know too much information but at one point I remember discussing this on this board about 4 & 1/2 years ago. so i know that its somthing we all went through.
Now I still have the sounds the smells not so bad I think its because I'm eating more normal foods - vegis fresh fruits that kind of thing but if I have too much of soemjthing thats not right it all comes back. Just like Reenie said I'm not suggesting that you are doing that I'm commenting on what has happeend to me.
What I have found is that if I am eating with others and the conversation is flowing and exciting I'm gulping alot of air. The cokes would give you that extra air too so thats a good thing tha tyhou've stopped those.
good luck! and god bless, pam

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well, but, I think it might be  from the foods you have been eating as well. I know that when I drink soda, which is rare. I get lots of gas from it!! So good that you have stopped that. I hope you can find relief soon & find what
is causing it!!
Genlte hugs sent your way.

Karen,

I had exactly the same symptoms and was miserable.   I called the wls office and they didn't have any ideas.  I brought it up at support group and several people said they were having the same issues. My surgeon she said that sometimes the part of the intestine that is the "Y" in the RNY can sort of reverse on itself, causing pain, but that doesn't explain the gas and bloat.  At least not to me it doesn't. I haven't had a soda in almost 6 years so that wasn't it.  I finally went to a gastro-enterologist and he told me to cut back on salads and green veggies for a while.  That seemed to do the trick.  Lots of fiber seems to make me miserable.  I keep Gas-X on hand and it helps on the rare occasion when I have a flare up.  I'm back to eating salads and seem to be doing OK now.

Try cutting back on salads and veggies for a week and see if that helps.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone for all the support!!! I drank LOTS of water that day, closed the door to my office, unsnapped the old bra, rolled down the waistband on my pants, took 2 Gax-X and laid down on the rug in my office for about 15 minutes.  That seemed to get the gas movin' down the ole pipes and up the hatch, too, so after a few burps and you-know-whats, I did feel a little better.  (This was not a pretty picture!!  I'm glad none of my employees walked in on me!) I got up, snapped up my parafanailia and drank some more.  Then I walked some through the halls.  After about 3 hours, I did feel better.  Whew!  I'll never drink another Diet Soda again!  I called the doctor and asked for pain medication because I was in agony....Crap, they acted like I was an addict who was trying to put one over on them....Sheez!  The first time I've asked for some good stuff and I get the old skeptical evil eye over the phone crabby-pants receptionist who made me feel like a crack addict!  Anyway, I've been okayl ever since.  I have also been trying to eat gluten-free foods to see if maybe I have developed an adversion to wheat products since some carbs seem to give me trouble.  I'll just keep taking my Gas-X and trying to watch what I eat!

Thanks again for all your help and support, guys!
