Hi everyone, thanks so much for your responses to my ER Day post. Do me a favor - can everyone tell us here, those folks who have reported having kidney stones, or have had them in the past - did you only get the stones after your surgery, or did the problem exist before the surgery? Thanks. Maureen

Hey there Maureen;

How are you feeling?? I haven't looked in since late last week and just now learned of your ER adventure. I haven't had kidney stones yet and am in no rush to try them on for size!! My mother had several episodes, so I hope that genetics doesn't play a role. The bottom line in all of this is that I can't give you any information on the issue of stones, but I wanted to send you my best wishes and hope that you are improving.

Big Hugs;

Mike

I have a kidney disease called Medullary Sponge Kidney that causes me to form stones.  I was diagnosed when I was 27.  My surgeon was hesitant to perform surgery as I can't take calcium supplements without adding to my stone issues.

So here's a bit of information for you.  Chocolate is high in oxalates and oxalates help form stones.  Everytime you want to put an M&M in your mouth, think about that kidney pain.

Hugs,
C.

Connie, so how do you keep your calcium levels up where they need to be??? Believe me I am SOOOO trying to kick this chocolate thing in the butt. What absolutely stymies me is I never wanted chocolate before the surgery - just didn't crave it, didn't need or want it at all. I was a bread and past fanatic. Now, it's sugar, sugar, sugar in any form of chocolate that I can get my hands on. I hate it! But at least at this point I'm done shaking my fist in the air - it is what it is - and I'm owning it and trying to do it differently. That's all we can do, and keep on doing! How are you these days? Are you feeling better? How are Rufus and the kitties doing? Love you, Maureen

i hate to say this cause everytime i say this phrase it always comes back to bite me. one time i said i never had a car accident and i did. another time i said i never broke a bone and yup broke my leg...but i've never had kidney stones and please dear god i hope i never do!

i do know of minium of 6 people who have had them. I met all of them within the past 6 yearsthey get the stones regularly. they are all different sizes from fit to not fit. half and half men & women. two started getting them in their 20's. age wise they are between 29 to 60. two excersize daily one every other day the other 3 use the romote.  same with diet. two of them have parents who also regularly get kidney stones.

none of them or their parents have had our surgery.

As Alice would say, "Curiousor and curiousor!!" Ok, let it be known that your penchant for being hit with what you've never had after you talk about never having it - is OVER! I've put the whammy on this trend - you will NOT get kidney stones!!! Love ya, Pam - Maureen

Since I am late in catching up on everything, I don't get kidney stones, just kidney infections that are very painful & very hard for me to get rid of. So far have not had
the stones to go with that. Hope to find out why they keep coming back with this new
Doc I have. I am not sure how much she knows yet about WLS patients yet we will
