Medication

Just wanted to share with you a breakthrough I've had in medication.  I've been on pain pills for some time and it has been hit and miss on how well they work.  My doctor and I haven't been sure what impact, if any, the wls had on my absorption, but I'm pretty sure I'm not absorbing the whole pill.  We started me on a transdermal patch and life is suddenly good.  For the first time in years, I woke up this morning and didn't do a Fred Sanford shuffle to the bathroom.  If you need to be on meds, especially long term, ask your doctor if you can get a patch.  I'm going to start looking for a vitamin patch.

Be well,
C.

Wow, a pain free day for Connie! Very good news! Is there really such a thing as a vitamin patch - if not, you're onto something here! M.

OH! I am sooo glad you found something that works and you know what... patches should be more prevalent, I mean it has to be a heck of a lot better not having that heavy stuff on the stomach. A vitamin patch!!!! I keep wondering how much this chewable Im taking is helping. I am getting the b12 shots and taking my vitamin d and my iron pill... i am almost positive that I am not absorbing ANY of this iron. I had those darned pica cravings (craving the scent of chemicals) soooo bad yesterday i had anxiety in my chest all day and the main cause I keep hearing is low iron. which i am very anemic right now. i think im going to just get the liquid vitamins. They are so expensive though...but im in a rough spot right now. Im FINALLY down to one b-12 shot a month. I was starting to feel like a pin cushion!

Elizabeth, again check out Walmart for better pricing on the liquid vitamin - I buy my B-Complex in liquid (dropper) form and it's tons cheaper than what you'll find at places like GNC. I don't know if they sell liquid multivitamins, though. I can't wait to hear that your iron level is up! Maureen

yeah they do have liquid vitamins but the liquid vitamins didn't have enough "vitamins" in there. there were alot missing and the percentage wasn't as great for some reason. i'll be going to the vitamin shoppe they have a liquid vitamin that they sell and target for weight loss surgery patients. its really strong and icky but its the best vitamin for our absorbtion and i won't have to worry any essential vitamin thats missing from the mix... i think i spent 45 minutes at the store looking for the right chewable that had enough vitamins and i think its still lacking some. i have to get more of everything protein...yogurt... just groceries in general actually!  times are tight right now.

People laugh at me because I take the GummyVites that I get from Sam's Club, but my vitamin levels, except for D have been great all along.  I chew 4 in the morning and 4 at night.  I think they cost me about 8 or 9 bucks for 280 vitamins.  A bottle usually lasts me a month.  I think because they are easily digested gummies, they absorb better.  For my B-12, I get the 2500 mcg sublingual tablet Nature's Bounty from Walgreen's.  I like that the best and take it a couple of times a week.  Again, my B-12 levels are always good.  Last night, I noticed that the store I work at carries a Vitamin lozenge from Sweeden (I think), sort of like a hard candy.  I didn't have enough time to look at the package, but I'm going to check them out the next time I work.

Hey there Connie;

I'm delighted to here that you've found an answer to the pain. What great news that is!!!!!!
It's amazing how far they've come with the medication in patch form. I'll certainly keep this news in mind if I have problems with any levels in the future. So far (knocking wood with vigor) My blood work has been coming in where it should. I take the chewable Centrum chewable
multi-vitamins twice a day and the 1000mcg sub-lingual B12 tablets from GNC once a day. These with the calcium citrate tabs seem to be keeping me where I should be so far.  Stay well Connie and stay pain free too!!
