I know that the weather in Maryland is very unpredictable no matter WHAT the season, but I'm just not prepared for it to be 26 degrees with a predicted high in the low 40s .. IN November!   An odd single digit day (or series of single digit days) in January is to be expected, but NOT this cold this early in the year.   And then to add insult to injury I was talking to an RV friend from Central Illinois this a.m. who is getting ready to leave in a few days for their winter trip ( 3 or so months) to the Gulf Coast and Texas/Arizona before they head back home in mid-March and he said that he read where the east coast is in for a brutal winter.   ARGHHHHH!!!!

I'll get over it, but needed to whine for a few minutes.   Being here to live life and enjoy it no matter what the temperature sure beats where I was 5 years ago today!

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Hugs, Mo

I went to the barn to ride last night and couldn't even muster the strength to pull on the riding boots - so I stood next to my horse in her stall and with chattering teeth, just patted and stroked her and listened to her munch on her hay (horses get su*****redible satisfaction from eating!) and watched the steam blow through her nostrils... ah, I hate the cold! The chill goes through my bones and settles there so that I can't even move! Not so five years ago when I'd venture out in blizzards with nothing more than a 5X sweatshirt and people would stare and the gutsy ones would ask, "Where's your coat?" and I'd say with mock cheerfulness, "Ah, I'm built like a Polar Bear!!" But here I was, next to this beautiful creature who on warmer days stands patiently while I settle this still foreign, relatively fit and strong body into the saddle that sits on her back ... such a miracle. And despite my demons, I'm working hard - dammit, I'm working really, really hard to hold onto the miracle. I want the same for all my Marcher friends and family. Thinking warm thoughts and wishes for you and all who visit here - Maureen

For the first time in a week or so Mr Mo beat me home from work so when I got here there was already a toasty fire in the fire place.   MMMMMMMMMMM.. that felt good just to be able to kick back and relax in some warmth!

it's been in the 20's here in ohio in the mornings- i know ohio is sposed to be cold in the winter but still!
the office i work in is in the basement of the courthouse- in summer we fry our behinds off and run the AC to freezing- now -we are not allowed to run the ac and the basement is hotter than hades- so we are roasting-ok- so- the only window in the office is over my desk- you got it! they open the window to let in cold air- and it blows right on me- and they run fans to boot! to circulate the air...a sweater or coat is one thing but my hands are freezing- to the point of hurting--i am going to have to find some of those gloves without fingertips to work in...and i'll end up with sore throat ears nose etc uckas...yes, i am gratfeul for a job --just need to find something else!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I too work in a government building that has heat/cold issues!   There's no telling what the temperature will be either summer or winter.

I am the biggest wuss ever when it comes to the cold... most of the time.  Today it was in the 80s and I froze.  I've been to Alaska in March and wandered around without a coat and was toasty warm.  I know it sounds crazy, but I love a crackling pine and will run the AC and start a fire if it hasn't cooled down enough by December.  My favorite wood for burning is Shaggy Bark Juniper, try it if you can get it back there.

The first few 'cool' evenings before we close the house up for winter, we will sit in the family room with the windows wide open and a roaring fire in the fire place!

We took out 6 trees in the front summer before last and have all that wood.  It's seasoned, so I am actually looking forward to a winter of a fire in the fire place every night.
