OT Politican thread
Hmm... now I'm not sure what to think about Obama denying McCain's back out. I read about it in the paper. McCain said he was going to stop campaigning and fundraising and ads for the moment to focus all his attention on the economic crisis. The president had asked both of them to assist. Obama's party refused to back out of the debate and he stated that "A future president had to be able to handle more than one thing at a time." While I agree with that statement, I can't help but think that was a bit arrogant of him. I think it gave him a good chance to take a jab at McCain and he took the opportunity. I would rather him focus ALL his attention on the economic crisis at hand instead of his attention being split at this crucial time. Its only a small delay in the debates. This crisis is HUGE HUGE HUGE not some "oh this is bad but I can handle the economy and other things. I'm that good jus****ch" I don't know. I just think thats a bit arrogant. We are in a SERIOUS crisis and I just wonder if Obama is a little overconfident there. He is still assisting but... I don't know. I'd feel better if we had ALL of his attention and not part. This is scary stuff!!!!
OK, I stirred the flames before, but didn't jump into the fracas. I'll bite on this one. I have been an absolute political news junkie this election. The Man does a lot of lobbying and meeting with politicians on behalf of police unions so I sometimes get insight to politicians that most people don't get. I am also 6 rungs under the Governor of Arizona in the food chain so get info through governmental paths. Here's my thoughts on the debate issue...
Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson asked that neither candidate get personally involved with the bailout because he felt that the circus they would attract would impede progress. The committee was well on their way to a proposed solution by the time McCain made an offer to suspend the campaign and go to Washington. In fact, the rescue accord has been reached. I live in Arizona, I'm very familiar with McCain and what his influence has been on the state in which he lives. I've seen the impact of his votes (by the way, he has the second worst voting record in recent history, worst voting record belongs to a congressman with a brain anuerysm). He's very often absent when it counts. And I personally like the guy! I really feel that the postponement of the debate was a stall tactic on McCain's part. Honestly, there are people in Washington with much better financial expertise than either McCain or Obama and those were the people who should have been working on the bailout, not McCain and not Obama. The hallmark of a good leader (and I ain't calling Bush a good leader) is someone who appoints the right people to the job and then gets out of the way. I wouldn't expect the president to know enough about the financial crisis to roll up his sleeves and solve the problem so I wouldn't expect the two candidates to do so either. I would expect the Treasury Secretary and people of that ilk to address the problem and if the Treasury Secretary says to butt out, I think the candidates should have gotten out of the way and let him do his job.
Stepping off my podium.

Hmmm... you know i kindof wondered that because I just read that they arleady have pretty much made the decision. SO I then though, well then why pull them in? SO that actually DID cross my mind about 10 minutes ago. huh. so dont know what thats all about then other than the president wants them to just be in on things being that they will be taking over this mess in a few months. I'm not real sure what the stall tactic would accomplish for McCain and why would he pull his ads and all that crap. Doesnt make much sense and seems like it would hurt him rather than help. Guess it was for show. This is good to know.
So it makes more sense that Obama wouldn't agree to delay the debate since he didn't really need to be pulled in. Probably knew that from the get go. Makes more sense now. Gave him an opening to make his little multi-task comment. I'm sure more junk will be said soon enough. I'm sure a bigger deal will be made out of this (the debate delay) than need be. Of course. lets just get on with it then if they made their decision and they don't need to be pulled in.

I may have spoken too soon about the the bailout. I get up this morning and it's a different world and things have changed. There's a recent Wall Street Journal article here:

Obama still says he'll be in Mississippi, waiting for McCain. I found a website that compares where each of the candidates stands on major issues. http://election.msn.com/WhereTheyStand.aspx
