scared
Has anyone had a vitamin D deficiancy? And if so other then taking more vitamin D is their anything else you can do. And I have also lost 10 pounds in less then a month and don't even want to eat so now I am scared that I will just keep losing weight. I am where I need to be right now with my weight and don't want to go any lower. Moved to Florida two years ago so haven't been to a support group meeting since moving out of Indiana. Really think I need to talk to someone who can understand what I have going through.
I haven't been through a vitamin D deficiency, but my surgeon's support group leader talked about this. She said that in order to process vitamin D most efficiently, you need to get sunlight early in the morning because it's processed in your skin. Vitamin D won't process in your system unless you get UV rays. I imagine that living in Florida, this isn't a problem for you, but early morning UV absorbtion is the most beneficial. Ironically, wearing sunscreen, prevents you from processing Vitamin D so while you may be skin cancer free, wearing sunscreen can cause you to have a vitamin D deficiency. Usually 10 minutes of sun exposure per morning is enough. Even opening the curtains in your house helps.
Good luck to you with this. Hang around and let us know how it goes for you.

Hi Robin, welcome! Have you actually been diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency or are you just suspecting it? I'm not sure where you are in FL, but there are many top-notch bariatric facilities in that state; or I would otherwise urge you to contact the surgeon who performed your procedure in IN for a recommendation for a surgeon/bariatric center in your area so that you can get the support you need - emotional (from the SG meetings) as well as medical (critically important!). To what do you attribute the recent 10 lb. weight loss? Is this something new for you and if so, is it something that you really don't know why you're losing? Otherwise, are you feeling ok physically? And are you working with your regular PCP (doctor) to be running the requisite blood tests that we need at least bi-annually to make sure we're not suffering from malabsorption complications? Feel free to talk through all of this - or anything you need to talk about - with us, but you really need to hook up with a medical professional who understands the unique nature of your medical issues related to WLS - best of luck and keep us posted! Maureen
Hi Maureen,
It was when my PCP ran the requisite blood tests that I need at least every year my bariatric surgeon told me to have that he notice that my vitamin D was low. Will find out the rest of the results on the 19th. As for the weight lost I have no urge to want to eat. Not hungery, but I do feel ok physically. I just really don't care if I eat or not but I do drink lots of water. I will keep you posted. Robin
