OT - tough day at the office
Today was a rough day at work. As you may or may not know, I work in a drug and alcohol rehab. The staff is the most amazing group I ever met. Very tight, friendly and the most caring group of individuals.
This morning we found out that one of our counselors was found dead in her home. They found her slumped over her computer at home, working. She was not sick, and only 52 years old. Extremely dedicated and caring. It was especially tough when we had to call the clients (in a therapeutic community, a group of clients is referred to as the family) into a meeting to tell them. The outpouring of emotion was heartbreaking. This woman worked hard to help these people make a better life for themselves. I cannot believe that we lost such a compassionate human being. It is a huge loss for our institute. The staff spent the entire day with the family, talking, praying, eating meals together, singing, and celebrating this wonderful woman. She will be missed more than I can say.
So let's appreciate all the good in our lives and celebrate each other every day. Make sure the people around you know how you feel about them and how much they are appreciated.
Sadly,
Joanie
