blood sugar
ok so I called my friend who just retired as a fire fighter/emt and ask if they do a blood sugar check if you are unconscience.
he said yes but maybe because of where my school is 2 minutes from the county hospital they may have done one then but opted to wait for the hopital...
so I called the fire department to find out...
NO they did not
so i the ncall the hospital to find out if they did any such test and yes then did a cbc or somthing like that and that was the first thing they did and my blood sugar then was 70 right in the middle of normal...65-75 is normal.
so now i am not sure about anything even more.
I was hoping it was blood sugar related so that I could drive again and stop taking all this medicine and just monitor my eating...
still have to see the endo hopefully soon...they are in NO HURRY...I on the other hand have nothing to do but wait so I want them to HURRY!
just thought I would let you know...
oh and the spaces help me read better, side effect of the medication is headache after reading too much and the words kinda slide down i nthe middle... the spaces help.
thanks again for listening and supporting
nic
Nic,
Is there the possibility that your blood sugar was very low at the time you had the seizure, but back up by the time they took blood in the hospital?
A normal blood sugar level is between 90 to 100 or for an outside range, 80 to 120. If you were at 70, that's low. After eating, blood sugar normally rises to about 140. If yours was at 70 after eating oatmeal, something is amiss.
Hugs,
Connie
Nic,
Something else I thought of...... I take Neurontin for pain, but understand that it is an anti-seizure med. I have no side effects at all and have no restrictions for driving. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabapentin
Maybe this is something you can ask about if you ever get to see the doc.
Connie
My thought exactly - a reading of 70 is quite low, sweetie - should be between 90-110. So if it read 90 at around an hour after the seizure, you can be sure you were somewhere between 50-60 at the time of the seizure...keep pecking away at this, but don't make yourself crazy - just make your doctors accountable for your health! Love, Maureen
Hang in there nic! Hope you get some answers soon. But what Connie said made alot of sense. You know I had a terrible drop in blood sugar once... I almost passed completely out and foudn myself on my rump not knowing exactly how I got there...anyways... I swear I tested my blood sugar moments later when I felt a little better (Mom is diabetic) and my results were normal. I think that when its happening its real low, but I also think it goes up just as quick. Test wouldn't be accurate I wouldn't think. Hang in there!
