Anyone Have Any Experience With Topomax?

My doc just put me on it for depression - anyone have any thoughts or knowledge about this drug? Oddly enough, it's actually an anti-seizure med but is used for a host of other ailments, including depression. Maureen

AAAHHHH.... topomax. drooolll... If I had a drug of choice it would be topomax. I LOVED it when I was on it!!!! I had to go on it for my migranes. I have stroke symptom migranes and can only do certain type of preventive medications. Topomax was AWESOME! It worked so well for me and it made me...so calm and happy. it also made me very spiritual. I know that sounds a little crazy...but i found myself meditating alot and felt just....closer to God spiritually...here i find out they call it the "spiritual drug" not to make it sound all weird and psychadelic...its not like that. It just relaxes you and you can focus on things better. (my experience) BUT... now for my personal down side to the drug.... when I took the full dosage of topomax I saw trails (that is temporary and not really distressing but wanted to tell you about it) if I moved my hand I saw trails follow... again it didn't last long. BUT what DID happen to me personally is it started to affect my vision. Myopia. and also I got tingling in my fingers and toes. The tingling and pin and neddle effect wasn't that bad... I could've delt with that... but the vision scared me. My optamologist said to go off it. Which I did. But now I hear that even that symptom goes away. I was just to chicken to risk it. Ask your doctor about the vision thing (IF) you get it and see what his opinion is. I personally loved the drug... OH! and It helps curb your appetite. You may just find those m&ms are a thing of the past for you!!! I hope it works well for you sweetie!!! My fingers are crossed for you. I've even considered giving it another try myself. I'm on verapamil for my migranes.. Just a blood pressure med that is a beta blocker. its not as helpful as the topomax...but I chickened out becuase of the side effects. It never made me feel sluggish or anythign like that. yep... its used for seizures- depression- migranes - and weight loss. I liked it I say give it a go Elizabeth M

oh yep!!! I took that for migraines and it was prescribed to me for insomnia... lovely little pill! how are you feeling with it now? I know it has not been long enough, plan on it takingat least 2 weeks and then only "expect" to feel different. it took me quite a while to realize that what I was feeling was "feeling life again". that probably makes no sense at all. I hope you are able to find peace and comfort with it! nic
