today is such an awesomely wonderful day! i woke up at 6am and started doing some cleaning. one of my projects for today was to clean out and replace my dryer hose. I've not done it in 3 years. Theres a reason for that. More to follow on that little story! So i bravely pulled the dryer out from the wall cleaned cleaned cleaned all the dust. O by the way i found out where several of my "single" socks had disapeared to. The washer didn't eat them they have a big party going behind the dryer. Their dancing up a storm with the dust kitties. Three years ago I had done this dryer changing thing. I got a very good scare. I am afraid of snakes. Spiders too. People who have them as pets I do not understand. But then again I'm sure that they do not understand my love of animals. So if someone tells me they have an adorable spider or snake I say thats nice! But when offered to visit I decline. My dryer is in the lower level of my condo. I have this great slider to outside and a patio under my deck. It gets alot of sun. I love my little condo. Anywho there are woods back there. Grass back there. And all the lovely animals, rodents, and yucky things you can imagine. The deer and bunnies are sweet I love to watch them. The scare I got 3 years ago was when I took the dryer hose off the wall there were 3 count em three snake skins. I screamed ran up the stairs and swore I was selling this snake pit. I was goign to sell it with the furniture included in the den casue there was no way I was going back down there ever again. I over came my fear. Had to the washer is a needed thing not to mention my tv and other stuff that I value but let me tell ya i did't go down inthe den for almost a week. Only when I ran out of underware. I cleaned it up really good figuring that maybe they were left over from the old owners. then i put screen over my dryer vent cause maybe they sneaked in from that. i was very sure that there would be no more snake skins anymore. And I didn't change that hose for 3 years just to make sure. OK dokey. today when i did all the cleaning thing and pulled that nasty hose off there was another one. How did they get in????? Why my house??? I have cats I have dogs why do I have to have snake skins in my house????? I HATE snakes! I swear if I see a alive one I'm outta here.

I have no clue as to how the snake skins get there. Did you know that houses can have a fire due to the dust and the vent hose not being cleaned out? Or dust in other areas of the dryer. I have heard so much about this lately...I am skeered to leave the dryer on and go away from the house. Please, please everyone, clean out all the dust bunnies......... Martha

YIKES! That would definitely creep me out. But I bet they aren't "In In" your house. I think it's probably just sleeping there in between meals because its warm. Very strange. They don't like people, so I'm betting you're safe. It is creepy though! I'm glad you mentioned the cleaning thing because I never thought to pull the hose and look. I'm thinking my husband has, but I'm definitely going to check now! Elizabeth M

Yes I'm always concerned about fires. I was in the fire department. people do not realize that fires can start in something as simple as a dryer or a dish washer that they use almost every single day. they think I'll be gone for just a few minutes to pick up milk or check the mail and they come back to find smoke. In the past I always just changed the dryer hose. They aren' tthat expensive so i'd throw them away and spend the 10 bucks to get a new one and connect that after i'd cleaned out the dust from inside the dryer. years ago when i was a kid i remember my parents having a bird make a nest in the little outside part of the dryer thingy. for a few weeks my mom didn't use her dryer until the baby birds were out of the nest then my father cleaned the nest out and put netting over the hose exit so no more birds could take up residency. with my love of birds i'd rather have them that snakes! yikes! today i tactle and finish the last part of the job which is to cleanout the dust from inside the dryer and then complete connecting the hose. i took my time with that part hoping if Mr. Snake was still in there he'd realize that I do not accept squatters but will give him 24 hours notice to vacate the property! wish me luck!
